Campus Housing: It is campus housing. It can not be the best. It is small compared to a house. And a little dirty with over 50 people per bathroom. But for this campus. they do a great job keeping it clean

Overall Experience: I have truly loved my adventure at Iowa State. I've gotten to meet interesting and culturally different people. I've also had the opportunity to get involved in many student events and clubs. There is no reason that a student can't get involved with something at ISU. There's literally something for everyone. If for some reason there's not something that you want to be involved in, you can start your own club.

The housing at ISU is pretty nice. The dorms are a little small, but that goes for every university. Campus housing is clean and the RA's are usually always available. My professors have been very helpful and try to make themselves as available as possible for their students. The courses are usually pretty hands on and the professors adapt their lessons to what is expected of students when they graduate and enter the work force.

The variety of classes is also pretty awesome. If you need credits to fill your schedule there plenty of classes to choose from. The class sizes are pretty good too. For large class sizes the material is easy to understand and for smaller class sizes the professor is usually always there to help with the harder material.

Overall Experience: Iowa State does a great job of getting students employment. They have plenty of workshops where employers come and talk to students. There are also plenty of opportunities on the Iowa State website that offer jobs and internships. The alumni network is also great. Usually most of the alumni keeps in touch with their professors.

I get a lot of emails from one of my professors who stay in touch with their previous students. Alumni who have successful careers frequently come to ISU in search for graduating college students to work for them.

Local Atmosphere: There's a lot to do in Ames. There are plenty of places to eat, a few little niche shops and a few bigger shops at the mall. I don't think I've ever been bored while living in Ames.

Campus Housing: Student housing on campus is pretty average. The dorms are small, but pretty well kept and the apartments are decent sized and are also well kept.

3 College Senior

Campus Dining: School food is pretty average. Nothing too extraordinary about it. I would like it though if more dining centers were open until about 8 p.m. instead of 7 p.m.

4 College Senior

Facilities: There are plenty of study spots and quite a few computer labs for students. The library has awesome hours (they're open from about 7 a.m. until about 2 a.m.) and there are a ton of research materials available.

3 College Senior

Scholarships: I wasn't able to get very many scholarships (only two in my whole college career), but they do offer a lot of scholarships. It's just really hard to get a scholarship in the liberal arts department of the college. Not too many big scholarships are offered unless you're an agriculture major or an engineering major.

3 College Senior

Campus Strictness: The campus staff are pretty average on strictness of pretty much anything. The only thing they're ridiculously strict on is parking. Usually you're not an official Iowa State student if you haven't gotten at least one or two parking tickets.

Health & Safety: The Thielene Student Health center isn't the greatest. The only thing I do there is pick up my prescriptions. I don't make doctor appointments because I haven't heard of them diagnosing students correctly with whatever is ailing them. I'm not sure if it's totally true, but I've heard a lot of stories similar to that.

For the most part, students enjoy their Iowa State experience. Iowa State is a large school with a beautiful campus and a reasonably diverse population. The first year can be difficult for many students, especially those who are not from the Midwest and are away from their families. It can be hard adjusting to college life, but once friends are made, the experience improves. Lifelong friendships are formed at Iowa State. Ames is a town that supports the college atmosphere, and students can quickly feel at home here. Iowa can have a few too many seasons for students not used to such dramatic weather, but students who can survive the first year find that the rest of their time at ISU gets easier.

Iowa State is a university of science and technology, so students in other fields may want to thoroughly investigate their fields of study before enrolling at Iowa State over another institution. You get out of college what you put into it. No matter where you are, if you are determined to learn, to make friends, and to succeed, your college experience will be fun. Iowa State has a lot to offer to every student—the question is if it is the right choice for you. Iowa State is large enough to be able to have great athletics and a huge social scene, but small enough that students get individualized attention in their classrooms and are easily able to make solid friendships. Students generally seem very satisfied with Iowa State—and why shouldn't they be?
