Off-Campus Housing: The off-campus housing at Iona College are safe, clean, and definitely an option everyone should consider. The off-campus housing can be either apartments or houses depending on what you prefer. The prices are decent, mainly based on location. Iona College does a good job in helping the students find a good place to live off campus.

Off-Campus Housing: There are many slumlords who own houses and apartments around Iona, so you have to be very careful. It is an old city with old architecture and not as many renovations as there should be. My recommendation would be to find a trustworthy homeowner and rent a room in their house- this way you know they will keep it nice as they have to live there too. The cost is variable. There is a law in New Rochelle that prohibits more than three unrelated people from living in the same household. While there are ways around this (not putting every person's name on the lease, etc), there are risks involved if the inspector shows up. Parking in a city is always an issue, the streets around campus have two hour limits or alternate side rules, and some streets prohibit parking during business (school) hours. Also, the apartments that are the most affordable are not always in the safest areas of town, and so night classes become an issue when you do not have a vehicle and have to walk home after dark.

    Best Off-Campus Housing Options

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

As an individual, it can be hard to find housing off campus. The local owners take advantage of students and try to make as much money as they can. There are options out there for housing; you just have to work and find the best deal out there. It is common for older students and athletes to be living together off campus. Many times they throw parties here, and these are the places where some good parties can happen.

Iona provides resources for off-campus housing, but students are the ones that are really working the deal. Some areas are unsafe and can be much different from living in the security of the dorms. Depending on where you live, it can be good. Some people end up finding a great place. There is not a need to worry about off-campus housing if you are not interested in it. It is possible to live on campus for all four years. Searching for a house in New Rochelle should be taken with care. If you put in the work and are proactive in the process, you will find the right place. If you are not, you are going to end up living in a rundown place, wishing you had just stayed on campus instead.
