Local Atmosphere: Lots of great restaurants and things to do in Fort Wayne.

Local Atmosphere: Many other students had a problem with the obvious "ghetto" of Marion, IN, but I was used to living in a similar town (though with less population) and I had no qualms walking to my destination off-campus. There is a general dislike of IWU among the locals, since they have a huge influence among the community without taking into account what the citizens want and enforcing their religious beliefs.

Local Atmosphere: It's a fairly populated town and not too far from larger cities, such as Indianapolis or Fort Wayne, but the Marion community has a distinguishable distaste for IWU. The stark contrast is visible upon merely stepping off of campus, where the local Marion community suffers from several foreclosures, broken sidewalks, vandalism, and an unwelcoming environment. From a local's point of view, the university seems to have a superiority complex, believing itself to be the righteous deliverance that this town requires and is literally taking over property and establishing its foothold among people who would otherwise not want their help, especially people from non-religious backgrounds who would feel pressure from this religious institution. I would advise IWU to seek into the needs that the actual Marion community has and work with their representative in order to create changes that want to be seen.

Local Atmosphere: The atmosphere that Marion, Indiana offers Indiana Wesleyan students is very welcoming in general. There is a local mall that offers some shopping as well as various convenient stores such as Wal-Mart, and Meijer. The community offers lots of growth opportunities in areas such as Social-Work and community building especially for the low-poverty populations that reside in Grant County. Marion also offers a lot of history and diversity which is essential for personal growth and maturity.
