Computers: The campus computer labs are all spread out. Many labs are over crowded during peak times. Stay away from the campus center computer labs during peak times. When in doubt, ask a professor, they'll let students use computer lab when class is not in session or when classes are changing during the day.

Computers: When my computer crashed second semester I thought I was doomed, but there are ample computer labs located in each dorm, the libraries and in random buildings around campus. I got by without a laptop because of these resources, but it is highly recommended to have one of your own because during finals the computer labs can be packed, and if you prefer being in your room or lounge to study a laptop is necessary.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: The library has three floors full of dell computers available.

5 College Sophomore

Computers: Wireless campus that, while experiencing occasional technical hiccups, is very efficient and accessible.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: IU offers plenty of computer labs, and although sometimes our main WiFi network can be slow or we may have problems with connectivity, it is usually reliable.

There's no mistaking the fact that IU is squarely in the middle of the information age. If you take one look around in any building, you'll find computer labs and e-mail express stations, many of which are open until the wee hours of the morning for those on a deadline. With an extensive network of support online, over the phone, or even through personal interaction, it would be difficult for even the most technologically-impaired student to feel left in the dark. Every dorm room has a high-speed Ethernet connection, and there's no waiting for campus computers to catch up. The numerous awards IU has won for its technological savvy and the simple convenience of the equipment proves the campus is wired for academic success.

Computers are expensive, and it may not always be an option to bring your own when you come to IU, but if it's possible, a personal unit is highly recommended. With your own PC, you'll have the option to fight lab traffic at peak hours or procrastinate at your own pace on that term paper that won't seem to write itself. Also, there are Macs with special software like Adobe Photoshop and DreamWeaver in some schools, notably the fine arts and journalism schools, so if you can't afford expensive professional wares, you're still covered. If you don't have your own, though, IU makes survival possible and not at all unpleasant.
