IUPUI’s computer facilities seem to be constantly changing, in location as well as in quality. There used to be a 24-hour computer lab in the business building, which is very conveniently located near several classrooms and safe parking lots. A few years ago, the 24-hour lab was moved to a location that seems much less convenient to most of the students, but the quality of the lab is much greater, and the students are adjusting to the new location pretty well. The lab assistants are typically very helpful, and they usually take their time to help find solutions to the students’ computer and technology problems. In addition to these one-on-one resources, there are also some very useful classes offered by UITS (University Information and Technology Service) and IT (Information Technology), which are free to IUPUI students. These classes run the gamut: e-mail, word processing, Oncourse (IUPUI’s online course management software), databases, spreadsheets, Web development, and more.
IUPUI students can also call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to get help from UITS concerning any issues or questions they may have about computers and technology. Their number is (317) 274-HELP (4357). They will even walk you through the steps if you’re having system issues! This is a service that every student can take advantage of time and time again. Also, students at IUPUI have enjoyed a very accessible wireless network that is supplied to the students with their free subscription to IUPUI e-mail and technology services.
