Advice on Finding a Job/Internship
  • Don't always rely on your internship adviser. Check web sites and talk to people; usually there is something out there that sounds interesting.
  • Each department at ISU has an internship coordinator. If an internship coordinator is not available, an adviser can serve the same purpose. The internship coordinator is aware of the possible internships on campus. Students should contact these people to gain work experience in their chosen field.
  • The stress of finding a job after college can be overwhelming, but ISU's Career Center can help, offering students services that will guide them for years to come. Events and workshops are created for students to meet with company representatives and brush up on some of the skills needed for entering the workforce. Students should go to the job and internship fairs in the fall and spring, the Networking Reception, and the Professional Etiquette and Networking Dinner.
  • Try to gain as much experience as possible. Start searching for internships during your junior year and try to get one each semester.
