5 College Freshman

Facilities: We have tons of campus events every year--reaching over 8000! Between the movie theater and bowling alley on campus and all of the student events they hold every week...there is no way to be bored!! They are a ton of fun and a great way to spend your free time. One of my favorite traditions here is Bengal Wednesday! Happens every Wednesday (obviously) and you wear your bengal gear or colors and you can get free stuff!! Water bottles, pop/energy drinks, candy, more bengal gear....it's awesome!!!

4 College Senior

Facilities: We have a rendezvous center that contains classes and study areas and dorm rooms. It also has a food court area.

4 College Senior

Facilities: We have many activities such as concerts, game nights, clubs, or sport games.

4 College Junior

Facilities: Idaho State University is a small school focused on student participation. There is always a highly advertised event on campus that promotes alcohol- free student activity. It is a great was to meet new friends and because the school is so small, everyone knows everyone. I love that about my school.

4 College Junior

Facilities: Student life at ISU is fantastic. There is a real sense of community in the housing facilities and I almost always feel safe on campus. There is always something to do whether it's take in a free movie or head down to the game center for some pool or arcade games. You don't have to be bored at ISU.

With the various facilities the University provides, ISU has plenty of activities to offer. Students wanting to chill can hit the SUB. Students wanting to do some weight lifting or play basketball can hit Reed Gym. Students wanting to become involved in theater have the luxury of the Stephens Performing Arts Center. The Holt Arena is a one-of-a-kind facility that provides students with intramural sports and varsity athletics.

Overall, the ISU facilities take care of a wide range of students. Then again, the facilities are old. The only thing to say is that this is an old campus. A lot of the buildings have been continuously updated and remodeled time and again. The University definitely strives to keep up with the maintenance of these old buildings. Reed Gym has had tremendous reconstruction in recent years, which will continue with the building of the new swimming pool. The Rendezvous Center compliments all of the other facilities on campus, giving students more entertainment, studying opportunities, housing possibilities, and just stuff to do!

School Slang
  • The I: The school letter on the hill
  • The Mini Dome: The Holt Arena was once called the Mini Dome due to its dome shape. Mostly just the old people call it this, though.
  • The Pillars: The pillars overlook the campus and are located above the "I." Some consider this a makeout spot.
  • The quad: Grassy area in the middle of lower campus buildings where activities take place
  • The SUB: The student union building
  • The U: University of Utah (Salt Lake City)
  • The White Tent: If it is a White Tent event, be there! Free food and activities.
March through the Arch : The Arch was part of Swanson Hall, which was built in 1903 and torn down in 1973. The Arch was dedicated to the memory of ISU alumni who attended classes in this first building and in memory of Theodore Swanson, a member of the original board of trustees for the Academy of Idaho. It is an annual tradition for freshmen to march through the Arch. Thousands of new students have participated in the "March through the Arch" that preserves part of Idaho State University's history.
Urban Legends
Custodians of some of the old buildings, which date back to 1901 when the school was known as the Academy of Idaho, say they see people walking around the halls at night.
