College Sophomore

Career Services: Have not saut career center yet but am in the process of seeking one out for internship.

3 College Senior

Career Services: We were well-informed about our future when we graduate and they do host career days. The alumni network is great.

4 College Senior

Career Services: Although I am not there yet, I do know that my degree program offers a portfolio class in order to build a portfolio that is acceptable to present to potential employers. At the end of the semester, potential employers are invited to review the student's portfolios and may offer a job or internship. Additionally, my degree program requires students to participate in an internship in which many are posted on the student bulletin boards. There are also clubs that students can get involved in to further network within their degree program.

College Senior

Career Services: I haven't heard any of this offered here.

2 College Junior

Career Services: The advisory board is a hot mess, in my opinion. It's hard to track down an adviser, appointments take forever, there is no dedicated adviser after your first semester, and their computer system is a nightmare.

Houston Community Colleges hosts between three and four career fairs per year. Depending on their department, students can participate in study abroad programs, externships, co-op placements, and work study jobs to boost their resume.

The HCC Web site and Career Services provides the following services: career assessment and planning, job listings (updated weekly), individual counseling and coaching, and internship opportunities. Seminars on interview techniques, business etiquette, resume and cover letter writing, dressing for success, and job hunting skills are held regularly. Career development software is provided along with a free resume fax service. Many HCC departments have partnerships with companies in the area that offer employment-related opportunities to students. Most students in workforce programs have a job upon graduation.
