Nightlife: Not Spectacular – Fraternities overrun High Point nightlife. Options are limited on campus for the weekends--the school usually keeps any school-sanctioned events for the week; it is generally assumed attendance would be low on the weekends because of the Fraternity parties. Fraternity parties can be fun if you are in the mood for them, but mainly they are more like sleazy clubs and can get uncomfortable and gross. The Sixth Street apartments generally have a more relaxed, college-like atmosphere. There are a couple sketchy clubs off-campus but generally they are avoided. Mainly people only go off-campus for the movie theater or to go to Hanes mall, which is about 20 minutes away.

Athletics: Free Events but Low Attendance – If the university had a football team (which they are working towards), attendance and enthusiasm would be much higher. Basketball games usually attract a bigger crowd and are a lot of fun to attend. Other than that attendance is really low for most sports unless you know someone on the team. School spirit isn't all that high compared to state schools, but a lot of people are generally eager to sport HPU gear and cheer at the Basketball games. The athletic facilities are top-notch, and often you can rent equipment for free for recreational play. The campus gyms, especially in the Slane Center, are extremely nice.

Off-Campus Dining: Somewhat Limited but Not Horrible – The city of High Point doesn't have much to offer in general. In terms of dining, the closest places to campus are chains like Chili's. There are a few gems, like Liberty Steakhouse and Ham's (their cookie skillets are infamous), but typically students choose to stay on campus and use their meal plans.

Local Atmosphere: School Atmosphere – The area is a great place that provides relaxation, beauty, and fun activities. While being along the shore, there are beaches that are available and malls that can be visited. It is a really great atmosphere that welcomes all different age groups.

Majors: Very Pleased – There are very few schools out there like High Point. I would certainly choose High Point all over again if I had to. In the future I tend to either work at a non-profit organization or as a social worker, and I can truly say with confidence that my High Point education will help me prepare for the future.

Drug Safety: Don't Know of Any If There Is – I am pretty sure that drugs are not too popular, however I'm not sure that I would know because I tend not to hang around that crowd anyway.

4 College Junior

Greek Life: Greeks Rule the School – Greek life is very popular on campus, however, people who choose not to rush are not isolated by any means. High Point really provides the best of both worlds.

Computers: They Are Good If They Work – They are slow, don't always work, sometimes locked and no seems to know how to unlock them. And during any major crunch time forget about getting one of the computer spots. Bring your own printer too, because those never seem to work.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Fun and Active Experience – The campus has a lot of energy and fun activities such as on campus movie theater, the pool, volleyball, the point for watching sports, having a burger, and arcade. The students are fun energetic. It really needs a strip with restaurants bars and shops.

3 College Freshman

Parking: There are a couple little parking lots but they need another big parking lot somewhere on campus, especially as the student body keeps expanding.

Majors: I have not had an internship on campus but the ability to obtain one is very high. The staff members that are in charge of helping us get internships goes above and beyond to make sure that we can get one. They help us build resumes and what to do on interviews and how to fill out applications. They even send out emails to students that can apply for internships in their respected majors. What makes it the best is that all of the teachers at our school have had the experience out in the professional world before they have come to teach so they have connections to get us the best internships and help us prepare before we take one.

Guys & Girls: Who Go to HPU – The students that attend HPU are a lot of city kids or kids whose parents have money. Their social lives consist of either Athletics, Greek Life and then you have those that are just into their own things. Kids dress in all types of styles and from different places but you can tell the kids who are Greek and who are not. The students are really involved on campus in all aspects; in everything from athletics to greek life and student council there is a diverse number of kids that do all of the following. At times it can be intimidating to be around kids who like to flash money (that is some kids but not all) but it just takes some time to adjust.

Scholarships: Sometimes a Challenge – It really depends on which you are trying to get. I was offered a scholarship based on SATs and the school changed its value after averaging that against GPA of other students in the same range. Just don't mess up the application for them and you will be fine.

Parking: Pretty Good – Most of the students on campus seem to have a car as permits are free (rare on college campuses these days). This however can cause issues when the students living at the Village Campus or North College Campus drive on to the main campus in the morning and park. Most of the spots are used and it can take a while to find a spot.

Facilities: Pretty Awesome Environments – High Point University's most impressive feature are all of it's facilities. A new building seems to appear every two months or so and usually it's amazing. The University Center is probably the most luxurious of all buildings on campus, serving a majority of freshman and upperclassmen as a housing option as well as the food and entertainment haven for most of the students at the school. With a movie theater and arcade on the lower level and a steakhouse on par with that of Fleming's and Ruth Chris (included in the meal plan once a week), there isnt much more you could ask for in that department.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: Decent, but Could Be Better – There are trolleys running every 15 minutes to all the possible locations on and off campus. The only thing that could make it better is if the HPU shopping shuttle ran more often so students could get to the grocery store or Walmart more often for those without cars.

Campus Dining: So Good! There are so many options on campus for dining! Our campus dining caters to any need or allergy and they make it so easy to eat healthy and fresh food everyday which I love. There is also convenient stores on campus for other essential needs or for grabbing a snack when the typical dining locations are closed.

Local Atmosphere: Off Campus Isn't Necessary – There isn't much to do off campus in High Point, North Carolina but at High Point University you don't need to go off campus! So many fun activities and opportunities on campus that there is really no need to leave campus anyway.

Campus Strictness: For the most part things are not overbearing, don't be a fool and you won't have any issues.

Diversity: I would say there is a pretty good socio economic diversity, when compared to any private university. The school is certainly not a hotbed of liberal thought, fortunately. There are a thousand other schools for you if that's your cup of tea. In general most kids are pretty normal and welcoming. Whenever you put clost to 4,000 kids together you will get your fair share of idiots, fools and stuck-ups. Just par for the course.

Campus Housing: Excellent, Second to None. The housing is all either new, or recently renovated. Everything is kept in excellent condition, no complaints!

Weather: Not Bad – It is nice most of the year. It does get cold in the winter. I was wearing shorts in January but in February I am wearing a winter coat. It probably gets a low of 40's high of 98. It does rain a lot. The weather is very random a lot of times. Monday your wearing shorts Thursday your freazing and its widny. Very random but I love it here in the spring and fall.

Campus Dining: Pretty Good – The food options are amazing and quite good. The only problem is it gets tiring. There are only a few good things that are worth eating on the menus and after a semester it is tiring eating a Spicy chicken sandwhich everyday. The cafe is good for quick in between classes but the lines can be so long. NEVER go to the Point or the Bakery around 6 or so the lines are impossible you won't get food for an hour.

Guys & Girls: You will find vast diversity at HPU. There are skater boys and girls and then preppy boys and girls who where Lily Pulizter and vinyard vines everyday. A lot of the people are from the North so I don't think they have the southern hospitality and niceness of Southern men and women. Guys rarely hold the door for a girl but there are attractive girls and boys here and there are always a few not so attractive.

Diversity: Economic Background – most people at the school families are well off. but the school does offer financial aid to those who need it

Overall, the HPU experience is nothing less than “extraordinary." Most students are happy to be attending such a fantastic school and are actually sad to be going home at breaks. The campus has such a welcoming atmosphere that students feel that they are at home no matter how far they have to travel to get there. Students become so involved with friends, clubs, sports, and organizations on campus that leaving all of that to go home is sad for a lot of students. When it comes to preparing students for the future, High Point gives them every opportunity, and all they have to do is take it. High Point produces well-rounded students who are prepared to enter graduate school or the job market as soon as they graduate. With a focus on a real world experience in the University's education, students leave HPU with the competence to jump into the workforce. Through internships and hands-on classroom work, students can feel confident they have the skills to succeed.

High Point is different from so many other schools because it is a small school with large-school facilities. The University has the resources of big schools, but the friendly and caring atmosphere and personal attention of a smaller institution. Professors know students by name and take an interest with what they are doing in and out of the classroom. High Point values a student's whole education, not what is just limited to the classroom. The professors and administration work on molding students not just academically, but also instilling in them a sense of generosity, self-awareness, and kindness toward their environment and fellow man.
