4 College Sophomore

Majors: I am an accounting major and have a wide variety of interests in the business field. The school only offers three majors within the school of business, Business Administration, International Buiness, and Accounting. There were previously many more majors offered within the school. I do not understand why they have eliminated these majors.

Majors: I love my classes. I haven't had many classes or professors yet, but from my experience so far, I can say I'm happy I declared this major. Teachers are very willing to help and available outside of the classroom.

Transportation: The school has a trolley that goesto walmart, target, and different shopping mall and dorms that are farther off campus. They are free and come pretty often. They will provide you with transportation for a doctors appointment or just about anything you need free of charge.

Off-Campus Housing: Only Seniors Can Do It – There's not a lot of housing right off of campus where you could easily still walk to class like I have seen at many other larger state schools. The school does not allowyou to move off cmapus until senio year, but still very few senior do because of the convenience of being on campus and the great dorms offered.

Off-Campus Dining: For a Smaller City There Are a Good Amount of Options in Different Price Ranges. There aren't a ton of restaurants, but the local ones here are great. My family is always excited to go to them when they visit.

College Junior

Greek Life: Very Controlled to Say the Least – Student life at High Point Controls all Greek Life. They are controlling and manipulative.

Weather: Always tornado warnings, scary as s***. Ruins my day.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Trolleys run every 15-20 minutes all over campus. Don't really need a car, can always call security to take you somewhere.

3 College Junior

Athletics: Sports Are Decent – The athletics department at High Point University has put together a lot of competitive sports teams. The facilities that they use are top-notch and the uniforms are pretty sweet. The reason for the B- is the lack or school spirit and football. There is little to no school spirit at High Point University athletic events. Also, there is no football team which leaves a lot to be desired.

Nightlife: Not Awful – High Point is definitely no Manhattan, especially not night life wise. But chances are if you grew up in a small town High Point will be more than sufficiently exciting. Every Wednesday through Saturday you can always find something going on weather it is a party on campus or one of the popular off campus bars. You can sometimes get a bracelet underage if you are friendly with the security at the bars but otherwise you get a good chance of getting thrown you if you're spotted drinking underage at a bar.

Scholarships: Virtually None – If you're a presidential scholar you'll do ok but otherwise your best bet is to apply for scholarships outside of the university

Campus Housing: I lived in the standard dorms (no extra cost) last year and even they were definitely miles above what you would see for freshman dorms at most schools.

4 College Freshman

Academics: So far, all my professors have been good. They are available if you need help.

Weather: The weather is usually nice. We have all four seasons. This winter was very mild. Summers hot and humid though.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Hard to "fit in" if you are not in a certain clique. Cliques are formed and outsiders are not included - especially with the Greeks.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: I don't really see much diversity here..

4 College Student

Diversity: We're a Worldly Campus – We've got students from all around the world - it's awesome!

5 College Student

Overall Experience: I Love It Here – High Point is the best and I'd pick it all over again!

5 College Student

Transportation: Campus Trolleys Are the Best – They're clean, convenient, and almost always running.

5 College Freshman

Academics: Good place to learn – Even after reading many negative reviews on HPU's academics, I still chose it as my college. Today, I am feeling proud of my decision. Advisors are friendly, caring and are capable enough to guide you. Faculty and staff respond to your emails immediately and are always willing to help you with study doubts. The thing I love the most is the free walk-in tutoring. Students can also arrange a tutor for their specific course free of cost. Workload does not pressurize the students. If you concentrate on your classes the whole semester, you are good to get a B+ or an A. However, this does not apply to Art, Languages, and a few other courses. Instructors, instead of sticking to the textbook, bring in a lot of practical examples which helps the student to understand the real world rather than simple theories. I enjoyed my transition to college and I am thankful to High Point University for making my college life wonderful.

Computers: There are a lot of really nice computers available all the time on campus. Mostly Macs

Scholarships: If you're looking to come to here but require a lot of scholarships/aid : THINK TWICE!! The school is not worth the loans you are going to need. Even the President says "we dont give discounts at this school"

Facilities: Go greek or go home. If you're looking for a campus where you will meet a lot of genuine, friendly, or kind-hearted people HPU is not the place. The greek system has such a strong presence on campus that you might as well transfer if you don't get in. Even if you do get into a sorority you're screwed if it's not one of the "top tier" ones and will be constantly mocked by the rest of the school. And don't forget what happens to the girls in the good ones. They are essentially told that their sisters highly recommend they do not associate with people lower than them on the totem pole. High Point has the exact same f-ed up high school hierarchy that most people expect to escape in college except it's like hs on crack...well actually cocaine that is. Which a huge portion of the student body, including almost the entire "brotherhood" of an extremely important faculty member's son, regularly use during their greek events.

4 College Freshman

Computers: Macs on Macs on Macs – Lots of macs on campus...not a lot of teachers with macs. It kinda creates some issues but the schools computers are undeniably nice.

2 College Freshman

Academics: So So – The academics are average. I can honestly say 3 of the worst 4 teachers I have ever had were my professors this past year but at the same time the single best teacher i've ever had was also. It's basically hit or miss, either your professor is absolutely amazing or absolutely terrible. A lot of the academic advisors suck at their jobs, are no help at all, and don't even remember their advisee's names. The whole "caring people" part of the schools mantra is b.s.

Overall, the HPU experience is nothing less than “extraordinary." Most students are happy to be attending such a fantastic school and are actually sad to be going home at breaks. The campus has such a welcoming atmosphere that students feel that they are at home no matter how far they have to travel to get there. Students become so involved with friends, clubs, sports, and organizations on campus that leaving all of that to go home is sad for a lot of students. When it comes to preparing students for the future, High Point gives them every opportunity, and all they have to do is take it. High Point produces well-rounded students who are prepared to enter graduate school or the job market as soon as they graduate. With a focus on a real world experience in the University's education, students leave HPU with the competence to jump into the workforce. Through internships and hands-on classroom work, students can feel confident they have the skills to succeed.

High Point is different from so many other schools because it is a small school with large-school facilities. The University has the resources of big schools, but the friendly and caring atmosphere and personal attention of a smaller institution. Professors know students by name and take an interest with what they are doing in and out of the classroom. High Point values a student's whole education, not what is just limited to the classroom. The professors and administration work on molding students not just academically, but also instilling in them a sense of generosity, self-awareness, and kindness toward their environment and fellow man.
