Local Atmosphere: Some of the areas around HPU are dirty and not the greatest parts of town. I wish it was located in a cleaner environment. The closest attractions are in greensboro which is still a 25 minute drive.

Majors: As a freshman, I havent started my program yet but I am looking foreword to learning in the classes required.

Campus Housing: The dorms are very luxurious for the most part. Freshman have the opportunity of living in a suite-like style dorm with four individual bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living area.

Weather: The weather is completely bi-polar. One day it will be 60 degrees and sunny and the next day will be 32 degrees with a chance of snow. It's not easy to prepare for the weather because you never know what you're going to have to deal with.

Majors: There are many majors offered and the classes that are required for each major make the majors incredibly interesting.

Off-Campus Dining: There are many places to eat off campus and most of those places are affiliated with High Point and allow you to use your "dining dollars" there.

Campus Strictness: You will get fined for anything you do because the school loves to get money

Transportation: The transportation through HPU is all free. The trolly takes you to each part of campus but I heard that they only come at specific times so when you miss it to get to class, you will miss your class. When traveling to airports for vacations, there is a shuttle that takes you there and you sign up for them. These are also free and it is very convenient. They ask you to wear something High Point related in order for it to be free but I have gotten away with not doing that on several occasions. The shuttles run every hour for about two days. There is nothing much to do off campus besides eat at random fast food places so there is no need for transportation to any of those. Most people just stay on campus

Guys & Girls: Both guys and girls here are very very shallow. They are materialistic and very self-centered. I have tried to branch out in many aspects of the school such as the Equestrian Team, my sorority, clubs, etc and they all have disappointed me in some way. I have to admit there are some good looking guys as well as girls here but thats as far as it goes. I feel that people here we're attracted to this school because of the looks and nothing further and that reflects them as a person. Many people just go to frats and party during the weekend because there is nothing else to do. They often have a lot of hook ups. There are very very few relationships and if there are, many will/have not last(ed) long. All the genuine people I knew transferred. The school is basically a mesh of rich kids whose parents sent them here because the security was good and knew their kids would be safe from the outside world

Computers: There are plenty computers to print around campus. I just recently had a paper due and the printer in my hall did not work but I walked to the building where my paper was due and printed it in one of the computer labs. The printers that a lot of people use (such as the libraries and residence buildings) get jammed or break very easily however, which can be problematic. I would suggest bringing a personal printer if you want to and have the space, but you certainly do not need them. As long as you are flexible with where and when you print, you will be fine. (Procrastinating a paper can be very risky)

Greek Life: HPU just built a brand new, beautiful Greek village right on the side of campus. There are limited fraternity/sororities, but there's one for everyone.

Diversity: High Point University does not have much diversity in ethnicity, but it is not a problem. Everyone is accepted as a person who deserves extraordinary education.

Drug Safety: Surprise, Surprise – I have been extremely surprised at the number of drunks and underage drunks on this campus. It's as if everybody drinks.

Academics: I am challenged in all my classes, my professors are always available and willing to help or answer any questions. Class sizes are smaller and a total hands on approach.

Campus Housing: The dorms are the best. Rooms are spacious and there are many great options. All the housing options are impressive. The food selections aregreat. You can eat at a Prime Steakhouse once a week. There is always something to do

Guys & Girls: Really friendly atmosphere and students take pride in the school

Drug Safety: Smoking is not allowed on campus because it is a tobacco free campus, but if there is anyone smoking or doing drugs of any kind HPU security is pretty strict about giving out citations and fines, and sending the students before the honor council.

Transportation: HPU has free shuttles that take students around campus and to off campus dining locations that are affiliated with the University. HPU shuttles also have scheduled times to drop and pick up students from Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and Harris Teeter multiple times a week. If you wear HPU gear you get a free shuttle ride to and from the train station or airport. If you have to go to the Emergency Room for a medical emergency, HPU transportation will send someone to come pick you up free of charge. If you have an internship or need a ride to volunteer they are always more than willing to give you a free ride if you give them enough notice. High Point also has "We Cars" that you can rent through the University to take wherever you need them at a fixed hourly rate! The We Car is very convenient, especially if you don't bring your car on campus.

Local Atmosphere: The neighborhoods near by are not that safe for students, which is why HPU shuttles take students off campus for free to Walmart, the mall, and the grocery store. There are food places near by, and other activities that aren't too far away from campus. Definitely not in the middle of nowhere which is a plus.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: This is a college campus so it's inevitable for some drug use to take place. Drinking is much more popular than other drugs, though. Most of the time this type of activity takes place in isolated situations and those who do not wish to be involved have an easy time participating in a variety of activities that our campus as to offer.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: HPU gets some grief for their "lack of diversity" but quite frankly, our student population is very diverse. It may not be as obvious ethnically or racially, but High Point's student body is extremely diverse and unique. There are people from a various countries and backgrounds, as well as people with all kinds of interests.

4 College Freshman

Computers: High Point really makes an effort to accommodate for their students, and they do just that with available computers. There are plenty open for student use in the Library, Study Commons, computer labs, and other study areas throughout campus. Sometimes printing can be more challenging, especially in color. But overall HPU does a great job meeting the students needs.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: Parking on campus can be a nightmare. You're better off taking the trolley.

1 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing that is not considered a school owned property is almost nonexistent. the school doesnt allow you to live off campus until you are at least a junior, and even then, there is a credit requirement.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: All over campus there are computers available to students for use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Both Mac and PC.

Overall, the HPU experience is nothing less than “extraordinary." Most students are happy to be attending such a fantastic school and are actually sad to be going home at breaks. The campus has such a welcoming atmosphere that students feel that they are at home no matter how far they have to travel to get there. Students become so involved with friends, clubs, sports, and organizations on campus that leaving all of that to go home is sad for a lot of students. When it comes to preparing students for the future, High Point gives them every opportunity, and all they have to do is take it. High Point produces well-rounded students who are prepared to enter graduate school or the job market as soon as they graduate. With a focus on a real world experience in the University's education, students leave HPU with the competence to jump into the workforce. Through internships and hands-on classroom work, students can feel confident they have the skills to succeed.

High Point is different from so many other schools because it is a small school with large-school facilities. The University has the resources of big schools, but the friendly and caring atmosphere and personal attention of a smaller institution. Professors know students by name and take an interest with what they are doing in and out of the classroom. High Point values a student's whole education, not what is just limited to the classroom. The professors and administration work on molding students not just academically, but also instilling in them a sense of generosity, self-awareness, and kindness toward their environment and fellow man.
