Majors: If I had the chance, I would do it all over again, and do a better job with my work. My career goals are to become an elementary school teacher. I have minimal concerns about getting a job in my field.

Majors: I am at High Point University. I have been very satisfied and impressed with my education so far. I am an elementary education major. All of my professors have been or are currently employed in the school system. They are all very knowledgeable about their content area, as well as very interested in seeing their students succeed.

Weather: The weather is great in High Point, NC! This is a huge perk to this area of the country. Summers are hot/not too extremely humid and winters may consist of a couple mild snows. This area is known for consistently good weather, raining every once in a while. Transportation is never really affected.

Off-Campus Housing: This may save someone quite a bit of money. There are certain areas that are safer than others, so this plays a large part in figuring out where to live. A student at HPU cannot live off campus, though, until he or she is 21 I believe. I don't think that availability is an issue when it comes to finding a place off campus and the area is not too pricey.

Nightlife: The nightlife is not that great. There are very limited options as far as a bar/club scene in High Point, let alone that are safe areas at night. The area is somewhat improving but it is such a small place, night life will never be great. Nightlife pretty much resides on campus or off-campus housing parties.

Computers: Although most students bring their own computers to HPU, there are a ton of computers to use in many different building on campus. Smith Library and the University Center Learning Commons both have a lot of computers that can be used 24/7, and most dorms also supply a number to use as well. Since most people use their own computers, I have never had trouble getting a computer to use when I'm in need of one.

Greek Life: Greek life is extremely important at HPU. Everyone is a part of Greek Life and if they aren't they want to be. We have many events for multiple causes and have great socials and formals.

5 College Freshman

Computers: There are computer labs located in all dorms with printers. The libraries are open 24/7 and provide unlimited free printing. The libraries are crowded during finals, but that's expected anywhere. If the computers/ printers aren't working in the dorms there are on call maintenance staff to help!

Off-Campus Housing: High Point University has the best housing I have ever seen.

Health & Safety: You will feel very safe on this campus. Health services tries to do the best job possible on keeping a healthy living environment.

Guys & Girls: Lots of girls on this campus! it's about a 6-1 ratio.

Weather: Great seasons! Winter seemed to come a little late this year. we did get probably about 6 inches of snow total this year. March and April have been cooler than average. August-September was nice and warm.

Scholarships: While they offer a few full ride scholarships and academic grants, they are rare and very little other aid is offered

3 College Freshman

Parking: There is parking available, but since they let freshman bring their cars there is some crowding when trying to find a parking space near your dorm, especially during important events.

Drug Safety: There is alcohol use that is very common. The drug is more hidden but it does happen

Local Atmosphere: There isn't much to do off campus in high point. You can go to Greensboro

2 College Freshman

Parking: Nearly impossible to find a spot because Freshmen are allowed to have cars on campus.

Greek Life: Not actively involved wtih Greek life, but it is a huge part of the campus. From what I see and hear, it looks like they are great for the most part.

Diversity: Bottom line: There is very little diversity at High Point. What makes this issue even worse is that there is very little interest or effort to improve diversity. HPU has no office of Multicultural Affairs. Almost every major university (private and public) has some type of office that focuses on diversity and inclusion. Yet High Point can't seem to establish one? Don't get me wrong, High Point is a great institution; but it would be even even better if there was more focus on diversity. Diversity is not just about race/ethnicity; it also concerns sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, etc. While there are a few clubs and organizations that focus on these categories (Pride/LGBT, International Club), there could be more awareness of them among the student population. In general, I feel like most of the students here have no interest in learning about different cultures and backgrounds. Given that the majority of students are Caucasian and from affluent backgrounds, diversity is just one of those areas that gets little to no attention. However, the school is making a poor effort to improve diversity and make it a core principle in their admissions and programs. It is the hope that with the founding of the new Diversity Club, efforts from the Diversity Council, and support from faculty, that High Point will feel compelled to work towards improving diversity in the coming years.

Local Atmosphere: The High Point area offers shopping and some cultural events. There are opportunities on campus frequently. Transportation to shopping destinations is provided free.

Campus Strictness: The campus at HPU is a safe place. Officers monitor activity and there is an advanced security system in place. Inappropriate activities (drinking, tearing up dorms, etc.) will result in trouble. You are warned after a first offense and taken before the JD. Repeat offenders may be removed from housing, or worse, suspended from the school.

3 College Freshman

Parking: Parking is usually not a problem. It is well lit and easy to access.

4 College Freshman

Majors: My major is communications, which is one of the top majors at the university because of President Qubein. The quality of faculty for my major is really outstanding, and they know what they are talking about. I only know of one student whose major is NOT available at HPU.

Overall, the HPU experience is nothing less than “extraordinary." Most students are happy to be attending such a fantastic school and are actually sad to be going home at breaks. The campus has such a welcoming atmosphere that students feel that they are at home no matter how far they have to travel to get there. Students become so involved with friends, clubs, sports, and organizations on campus that leaving all of that to go home is sad for a lot of students. When it comes to preparing students for the future, High Point gives them every opportunity, and all they have to do is take it. High Point produces well-rounded students who are prepared to enter graduate school or the job market as soon as they graduate. With a focus on a real world experience in the University's education, students leave HPU with the competence to jump into the workforce. Through internships and hands-on classroom work, students can feel confident they have the skills to succeed.

High Point is different from so many other schools because it is a small school with large-school facilities. The University has the resources of big schools, but the friendly and caring atmosphere and personal attention of a smaller institution. Professors know students by name and take an interest with what they are doing in and out of the classroom. High Point values a student's whole education, not what is just limited to the classroom. The professors and administration work on molding students not just academically, but also instilling in them a sense of generosity, self-awareness, and kindness toward their environment and fellow man.
