Campus Strictness: The RAs and Campus Security are only concerned with the safety of the students. They are not out to ruin the fun, but they do get very intense when students become ill or are a danger to themselves or others.

Local Atmosphere: There are parts of High Point that are not very poor and not safe, but others that are completely opposite, and the campus itself has an excellent security system. I haven't once felt unsafe or unprotected. There are plenty of great shopping areas/malls nearby that HPU provides bus shuttles to weakly, there is a museum nearby that I've heard great reviews of, there always seems to be something to do on campus AND off campus.

Campus Dining: As a vegan, it's very difficult for me to find something to eat off of campus. On campus, almost every dining location offers a vegan option. We have anything from a sports bar, to a steakhouse, and a farmers market- so in other words, there's something for everyone.

Guys & Girls: Although High Point has a large population of out-of-state students, most students are very classy, well dressed, and polite individuals. Students come from all over the world-so there's always a sense of diversity, but we, as students all have something in common.

2 College Freshman

Majors: There's a good variety of majors available, but there are so many class requirements for each major, that it sometimes feels like you will never get to what you want to be doing. It's annoying that it takes all the way until junior year to start taking "major-specific" classes. It is really easy to declare your major though and for the most part, each discipline and major has their own building.

Campus Strictness: This school is really strict. The school pretty much shuts down the entire party scene around 1am. You'll be able to find parties off campus that go on later than that, but for the most part, you're getting ready for bed around 1 in the morning. Security does a good job not letting intruders onto campus, but they are a real hassle if they see you walking with a back pack on late at night, or if they suspect you have been drinking.

Majors: It is really easy to get into your major here at High Point. It seems wise to pick a major relatively quickly during your time at High Point, because there are tons of class credit requirements for the majority of your majors. The classes don't really become "major specific" until your junior year.

Majors: The career services department at High Point doesn't really help you in anyway that you couldn't help yourself. The economy around High Point is really boring, and frankly dead so getting an internship close to school is nearly impossible. You would have to go about 2 hours to Charlotte or about 1.5 hours to Raleigh to find a interesting and fulfilling internship that could help you get where you want to be.

Diversity: The student body is made up of mainly Caucasian students. There is definitely a bit of diversity, but definitely not an even split. Students are very accepting of other ethnicity so there should be no worries. Sometimes people can get a little heated during political debates, but it is all in good nature.

Greek Life: Greek life on campus is definitely a great thing to do. Most students to pledge greek, and then there are a good amount who don't. Regardless of what people do in regards to pledging, it doesn't affect friendships because people mix and everyone is generally pretty friendly.

Off-Campus Housing: I would never want to live off campus. The area seems unsafe to me.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: There is a great health services facility on campus. It always is staffed by RN's and atleast one MD. There is also a regional hospital right near by that the school will transport you too, if need be.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: They have trolleys and shuttles that run every 20 minutes. They are really fast and have a lot of stops so you aren't hiking all the way over to a stop. The only slight draw back is that they stop around 2am on weekdays, which is a struggle when you are at the library.

They are more then helpful if you need a ride to the airport for breaks and things, it is often free. Even if you blow a tire or you become stranded somewhere they will come and help you out.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: In all honesty I first assumed there was going to be an extreme lack of diversity on campus. I expected everything to be very WASP-y, but it is totally untrue. I know and am good friends with people of all different races, ethnicities, and orientations.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: A lot of the freshman dorms here are better than upperclassman housing at other schools. They have everything from hall style to suites to apartments to 3-story town-homes. You can even get stand alone houses that don't cost any extra money.

Guys & Girls: Majority of the girls are snobby and the majority of the guys are jerks. The only people that are actually friendly are students that came here solely for sports since they are laid back and often came with a scholarship so they don't have a lot of money. These people are also hard to be around all the time since they are often busy with their sports and their teams. The people drawn to this school are preppy, snobby, materialistic kids who just came here because it is 'picture perfect'

1 College Freshman

Diversity: There is absolutely no diversity here. Sure they're are the occasional minorities but they're all here because of one thing: they have money.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: This school is basically out to get you. I just got caught with a little bit of weed and now am facing 1000$ in fines and i have to take counseling as well as drug testing. If you like to have fun don't come to this school. Seriously pay attention to this if you smoke and drink this is not the school for you. Don't take this as an angry user who hates the school.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: High Point goes out of their way to help you with financial aid and they offer numerous scholarships that are pretty generous and easy to accomplish. The biggest scholarship is the Presidential Scholarship.

Guys & Girls: Pretty average. It's really hard to find a good looking guy, not to be shallow. There's many cliques formed already from Summer Experience so everyone, even the guys, are entirely involved in their group of friends they made over summer.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: There are a lot of international students as well as students from North Carolina and all around the United States. I'm a freshman and I've mostly only met people from New England, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina, but there are others that I know that are from all over the place.

Scholarships: If you don't get the Presidential Scholarship in some form, then the university gives you very little financial aid, if any.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: Everyone is different but at HPU its okay to have different opinions, be a different race or whatever. They are groups of many different people but with a common interest and it works out.

Overall, the HPU experience is nothing less than “extraordinary." Most students are happy to be attending such a fantastic school and are actually sad to be going home at breaks. The campus has such a welcoming atmosphere that students feel that they are at home no matter how far they have to travel to get there. Students become so involved with friends, clubs, sports, and organizations on campus that leaving all of that to go home is sad for a lot of students. When it comes to preparing students for the future, High Point gives them every opportunity, and all they have to do is take it. High Point produces well-rounded students who are prepared to enter graduate school or the job market as soon as they graduate. With a focus on a real world experience in the University's education, students leave HPU with the competence to jump into the workforce. Through internships and hands-on classroom work, students can feel confident they have the skills to succeed.

High Point is different from so many other schools because it is a small school with large-school facilities. The University has the resources of big schools, but the friendly and caring atmosphere and personal attention of a smaller institution. Professors know students by name and take an interest with what they are doing in and out of the classroom. High Point values a student's whole education, not what is just limited to the classroom. The professors and administration work on molding students not just academically, but also instilling in them a sense of generosity, self-awareness, and kindness toward their environment and fellow man.
