Hendrix College has a beautiful campus filled with state-of-the-art buildings. The new Student Life and Technology Center (SLTC) building is gorgeous, spacious, LEED-certified, and well organized, with lots to do and plenty of space to hang out. There are plenty of computers and TVs to use in the SLTC, making it an even better place to spend your time. The Wellness and Athletics Center, an even newer building, offers a wide variety of athletic facilities, from a swimming pool to a rock-climbing wall, complementing the athletic offerings already present. Though other buildings—particularly the freshman dorms—are less modern, they are still at least adequate at performing their respective duties.

The campus is dominated by red-brick buildings—in fact, it seems like every building on campus is made out of red brick—but the styles vary, and the buildings are gorgeous. Despite being a small campus with lots of facilities, Hendrix still manages to fit in a good deal of open space, from the relaxing and popular Pecan Grove to the gazebo to the well-known fountain. The Brick Pit is another wide, open space on campus, used for many special events that a good amount of the student body will be attending. Students often use these open spaces scattered across campus for studying, chatting with friends, or just plain relaxing when the weather’s nice, and the open spaces make it easier to move from building to building in between classes. The campus is beautiful and functional, modern yet untamed—what more could a student ask for?

"Green" Initiatives
Hendrix is a fairly green school, with the Eco House dedicated to being environmentally friendly. In addition to that, there is a Sustainability Committee for Hendrix, and the new SLTC is the College's first LEED-certified building. The school offers an environmental studies major and other environmentally-themed courses. Students may rent bikes for free as an alternative to using their cars, and free recycled notebooks are distributed to students. Other green initiatives at Hendrix are too numerous to name-to make a long story short, Hendrix is quite devoted to the environment, in and out of the classroom.
School Slang
  • Brownie: Browne House-not to be confused with Brown House, which lacks the "e" on the end.
  • Couchie: A resident of Couch Hall comes with the stereotype of being a hippie or pothead.
  • The Fountain: A fountain in between the Staples Auditorium and D.W. Reynolds. Students are traditionally thrown in the fountain on their birthdays.
  • P-safe: Public Safety, the administration branch working to keep you safe. Members are often seen crossing campus on golf carts.
  • SLTC, or Slutcy: The Student Life and Technology Center is where the cafeteria and the Burrow are housed, and is also a common student hangout.
  • Tunnel, or Rape Tunnel: The tunnel below Harkrider, connecting the WAC to the rest of campus. This tunnel is newly installed, with interactive lights and sounds.
  • WAC: The Wellness and Athletics Center, where all physical education classes occur; WAC houses a rock-climbing wall, pool, and many other fitness amenities.
Traditions
  • Getting Thrown in the Fountain: Traditionally, every student is thrown into the fountain on their birthday. Other days are occasionally used when necessary (summer birthdays, winter break birthdays, etc.)
  • Gladiators/Toga Party: "Toga Party" occurs near the end of every year, just before spring finals. An emerging tradition, "Gladiators" is an annual event at the start of "Toga Party," where Sword Club members act out dramatic sword-fighting sequences with all of campus invited to be part of the audience.
  • Miss Hendrix: Miss Hendrix is an annual competition where men dress up in drag and participate in a beauty pageant.
  • Shirttails: Near the beginning of every year, freshmen participate in a raunchy dance competition called "Shirttails," competing against other dorms.
Urban Legends
A ghost called the "Galloway Virgin" or just the "Galloway Ghost" resides in the upper floor of Galloway Hall.
Favorite Things To Do
Students often participate in events held by clubs and organizations, or listen to guest lecturers. Martin Hall is known for having parties that are popular with a sizable segment of the student body, while others use the TVs and computers in common areas for their own amusement.

Clubs and Organizations on Campus
Hendrix College has a wide variety of active student organizations, from the whimsical Sword Club and Anime Club to the more serious Feminist Club and Hendrix Bike Revolution. Whatever your interests, there is an organization for you at Hendrix, and most students do join one or more organizations. Even if you don't join an organization, their presence on campus is quite obvious, due to the plethora of events hosted by various organizations. Starting a new club is not particularly difficult, but getting adequate funding from Student Senate can require some finagling.
