4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: The cost of off campus is ok. We receive student discounts so it makes it better, and we do have a couple of choices.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: There are some dorms that are not kept very clean, some dorms have bigger rooms than others. Housing is done by seniors first pic and it goes all the way down to freshmen. It's fair because we will all get our chance.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Half of my tuition and board is paid, it is expensive so I am trying to find some more money to help me pay for college because I don't have enough to pay for it all.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: The fan support could be better, but the teams work great together. They bond a lot and spend a lot of time together to grow stronger.

4 College Freshman

Computers: The network speed isn't the best, but there are computers available when you need one and you can print at any time. The computer lab is over 24 hours.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Every freshman must live on campus, I believe sophomores too. As a junior and senior, you can decide to live on the apartments that are offered by the school. You can live off campus if you are 21 and older, if you are married, if your family doesn't have enough income.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: We don't have greek life on campus, but if we did, I feel like it would separate the school and have more cliques.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: You see all kinds of people at my school. There are hispanics, international students, and the school is pretty challenging.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: My parents come pick me up when it's time to go home until I get a car.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: At night, we have a public safety officer roaming around in a golf cart just making sure everything is under control.

4 College Freshman

Weather: My campus looks beautiful at any time of the year. From fall to summer!

2 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: The town views Hendrix students as the smart ass rich kids, and thus there is quite a bit of animosity towards the students. The town adamantly advertises welcome and discounts for UCA students, but Hendrix is ignored entirely. There is quite literally nothing to do in town. Little Rock, the capitol, is a 30-minute drive away, and offers some entertainment and escape from the monotony that is Conway.

Greek Life: Hendrix does not have Greek life (thank the gods)

College Freshman

Academics: As I have yet to declare a major/minor, I cannot provide an accurate rating of the process. I intend to discuss the possibility of building my own major through Interdisciplinary Studies.

2 College Freshman

Transportation: The town my college is located in does not have public transport, nor an active taxi service (that I am aware of). College transportation is limited to an airport shuttle that only operates during major holidays.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: If you don't have the connections, your night/party life will be relatively boring (unless you are the one throwing the party). Your options will be pretty much be Martin 101 (ew). As the town is located in a dry county, there are basically no night clubs, aside from King's (which is more of a bar and doesn't exactly cater to the college aesthetic).

College Freshman

Majors: As I have yet to declare a major/minor, I cannot provide an accurate rating of the process. I intend to discuss the possibility of building my own major through Interdisciplinary Studies.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: The town is very basic with it's options, primarily fast food and chain options, with very few local places that are accessible to college students.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Campus is well lit and has obvious boundaries; I've never felt scared or paranoid at night while walking alone

3 College Freshman

Computers: Wireless network is sketchy and hard to maintain a working connection; recent upgrades may have fixed this issue

3 College Freshman

Weather: August through early October, and then beginning again in late April, the weather is horrendously hot and humid.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: As a practicing Pagan Wiccan, I find the acceptance at my college to be great. I have had wonderful experiences discussing my faith with others and practicing with those that are curious and wish to truly understand what it means to be Wiccan outside of the stereotypical Christian context.

2 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Other than on campus parties there is little else around without going into little rock.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Dining is actually vey good on campus. There are many options readily available for meat and vegan/vegetarian. There is a smoothie station and wok to make your own food. Extended late night caf hours are great and so is the food.

Hendrix College may not be for everybody, but for many students, it’s a wonderful choice. It’s a small school, which comes with both pros and cons. The downside is that there are less classes and majors to choose from, and that if you make any enemies, you probably won’t be able to avoid them until one of you graduates. The upside is that Hendrix is a tight-knit community where you’ll recognize many familiar faces on your way to and from classes, bonding over the popular annual events scattered across every students’ time at Hendrix. This community feel extends outside of the campus—alumni are friendly toward other Hendrix graduates, and even non-alumni in the Arkansas area generally have good impressions of Hendrix.

There’s always something to do at Hendrix, be it shopping at the ever-popular Walmart, taking advantage of the various off-campus dining options, seeing a movie, going to a club, or listening to a visiting lecturer. The faculty and staff are all friendly, caring, and truly devoted to helping you personally succeed at Hendrix. The food is great, with lots of options for even the pickiest eaters. The dorms can be crowded, but they’re also community-builders. Conway is a great small town, and Little Rock’s presence nearby doesn’t hurt, either, though Hendrix’s Central Arkansas location means some crazy weather and being in a dry county can be off-putting to some partiers. Public transportation may be nonexistent, but Hendrix makes it easy to have a car on campus, and many things are within walking distance anyway. When some of the biggest complaints about the school include the lack of proper drainage and the intermittent train whistles, you know you’ve got it made!
