5 College Sophomore

Campus Resources: we have a lot of computers and wireless access

5 College Sophomore

Campus Resources: we have good resources and everyone works together

College Sophomore

Academic Experience: I haven't had any experiences to do more in my specific major at school. For the Human Services 110 course, I got to do an internship at a local elderly facility and learned a lot.

Academic Experience: The class registration process is very simple and easy. You have to look at the online catalog and enter the CRN and institution on the website. The professors are laid back and understanding. Most of them try to help you complete the course with a passing grade and offer heartfelt advice.

Academic Flexibility: I am only able to take three classes due to my busy schedule of personal affairs and working. In the Spring 2014 semester, I was hoping that I would land a spot on an online class and take four classes. It is extremely difficult to get into an online class and by the time that everyone has a chance to look at their classes, class availability is slim. It is frustrating when you cannot get into the classes that you want and challenge yourself to reach your full potential.

College Sophomore

Career Services: I am not familiar with this section of the survey but I do know that there is career and internship fairs that are held regularly; as well as resume and writing workshops.

Campus Resources: We share resources with the public university. With that being said, we have a brand new gym that offers athletic classes, a pool and an amazing gym. We also have a great library/computer lab and a learning center. It was a great provision that we have the opportunity to share the same resources as the university and gain the full experience.

Campus Resources: The computer network at my school is great. Although we do not have enough computer labs to accommodate everyone on campus, our computers are efficient and reliable. We do not have enough funds to supply paper to the students but we can bring our own and use the printers available. There is a really fast internet speed and WiFi is available in most areas of campus.

Overall Experience: I would come back to Hawaii Community College again. There is reasonable tuition and a wide selection of courses to take for a community college. They hold career fairs and public events. Although the staff and students aren't welcoming and helpful, it is a great college for an independent learner- such as myself.

Tuition & Financial Aid: Some classes are not worth what I am paying for. I have sat in two classes who ended class at least one hour early and not completed the agenda as planned. When I pay for a course, I want to sit through the whole class and learn what was supposed to be taught for the day. Regarding financial aid, I received no assistance in our financial aid office. As an incoming freshman, I turned in all my financial aid paperwork a few months early. It took about four to six months to receive any response; despite calling during that time. If you are going to get financial aid at any institution, you need to be serious and firm to these people to get the job done.

Online Courses: I am currently wait listed for an online class in PSY 100. I heard that the online classes that Hawaii Community College offers was great. For those who have a busy schedule, it is effective, quick and adaptable. Although it is a great provision, there is not enough space to fit those who want to take online classes. This makes it difficult for those who have busy lifestyles to continue to take courses online.

Student Body: Most of my classes are either at the community college or public university. Hawaii Community College attempts to embrace different cultures and ethnicity of students through flyers, public meetings and gatherings. Although much is done to keep the community together, there is still a barrier between social statuses. Most stereotypes are not openly accepted to the common student groups and are most often left alone. But I do commend our student body for making efforts to change things around campus for the better.

Student Body: Its very divers here and i like that. People can be friendly but most people just look down when you walk past them. I'm always smiling!! It would be nice to see someone else smiling for a change.

3 College Freshman

Tuition & Financial Aid: Tuition is a good price but food and parking on campus is expensive.

4 College Freshman

Campus Resources: The resources on campus are great.

3 College Freshman

Campus Resources: The WiFi connection could be better.

4 College Freshman

Academic Experience: I'm just taking liberal arts and my pre rec's its okay.

3 College Freshman

Academic Experience: They have somewhat extra curriculum courses

3 College Freshman

Online Courses: I'm not good at making myself do work, such as online work, i had to take in-class courses.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I love college. The flexibility is great.

Career Services: I haven't attended any of the meetings that transistion students into their careers that have just graduated.

Facilities: There are a lot of art peices at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. All are very powerful and beautifully structured.

Recent Alumnus

Academic Flexibility: I haven't transfered to another college yet.

Academic Experience: Being an Administration of Justice major, the work load is minimal, but participation is warranted. By engaging in class disscusions is really how one learns in this feild.

3 Recent Alumnus

Academic Experience: The great thing about Hawaii Community College is that you can take Hawaiian Studies courses. I think students should try to take these courses (even as an elective), because the Hawaiian culture is a beautiful thing, and should continue to be passed down for generations.
