Academic Experience: It has been great. I love my major and cannot wait to be a teacher.

Academic Experience: My campus is very small so there is a very low teacher-student ratio. The curriculum is amazing and the registration process is fairly easy.

Campus Resources: There are great resources here on campus. For instance a great computer lab and a student success center.

Campus Resources: Printing costs. There are few lap tops, and wi-fi is hard to get in our rooms.

Student Body: It's like a family system. A very small campus and we all know each other.

Tuition & Financial Aid: This is the most affordable university ever. I do not qualify for financial aide, but whenever I needed something from that office, it has been taken care of and was quality service.

Academic Flexibility: The availability of various courses is very limited. We only have a handful of courses that are offered here. There are only four bachelor's degrees that you can obtain from Haskell.

Facilities: A lot of our buildings are National Historic Landmarks. One of our currently used dorms has been on this campus since the school opened in 1884. Our facilities are old and could use work, but we make the best of every building. There is not much of a social scene at the school. Students mainly gather at our basketball games. Basketball is a big sport amongst Native Americans. Just being at Haskell is the most unique opportunity for the students that attend here. A lot of the students here have come from some of the most dangerous reservations in the United States, so being in the safe town of Lawrence - or just living in a town - is an amazing opportunity for the students here.

Student Body: Everybody at Haskell is of the same ethnicity. It is unfortunate that most of the students that attend Haskell come from low SES families. It may not sound like there is a lot of diversity on campus, but there is. There are only a handful of students that are actually from Kansas area. Everybody else is from all over the country. Every single tribe at this school is very different. We take care of each other at this school. It really is like a small family or community here.

Some students come to Haskell without knowing anything about their tribe or culture. During their time here, they are able to get a better understanding of who they are as a Native American.

Campus Resources: The student center provides a lot of free services that are extremely useful. Our library has a very large collection of American Indian literature; one of the biggest in the country. The activities they provide are amazing. Our campus activities center gives out free movie tickets, takes students to KC Royal games, the Kansas City Zoo and they do a lot of other amazing thing for the students here.

Campus Resources: We have many available computers on campus. You really do not need your own personal computer or printer here. The Student Success Center offers free printing. One of the only things that is really bad here is the Wi-Fi availability and connection. The connection is very slow and not available everywhere on campus. It is sometimes an inconvenience to have to go into the designated Wi-Fi areas to use your laptop or other devices.

Online Courses: There are no online courses currently available for Haskell.

Career Services: Most of the employees here are alumnus of Haskell. The alumni network is very strong, especially because of the school size and that it is an American Indian school. It is very easy to network with alumni.

Academic Experience: The Elementary Education program that I am in is the only nationally accredited tribal program in the nation. It is the only program at Haskell that requires you taking classes for the program before you get into the program. The workload can sometimes be overbearing, but there is a lot of information that you need to know and understand as a teacher. One of the best things about our program is that instead of only doing student teaching for one semester in the spring, you are in the same class for the entire year. You get to see what the first day of school is like and you are able to see how the classroom is run before you start your student teaching. Our facilities could be a little better. It is an older building and the heating/cooling unit is not always the best for the weather. It can either be extremely cold or really hot.

Academic Experience: The academics here are okay. We have a great student to teacher ratio that makes it easy to have a great educational relationship with your professor. Everybody here is somewhat of a family. The class registration process is easy, there are free tutors available and the workload is a great size.

Overall Experience: My overall experience has been okay. There are things that could change, but a lot of the changes might not happen because of budget cuts. Some of my favorite experiences have been cultural related. It is amazing to go to school with people that all have similar backgrounds and experiences. The best part about Haskell is that we celebrate our rich culture. We do not think of ourselves as oppressed, but think of ourselves being empowered by education. Haskell makes it very clear that we can make big changes in the communities we come from. If I could choose a school all over again, I would have chose Haskell over going to a community college first. This is one of the most enlightening places you could ever be.
