3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: I had my group of friends, but we fell out due to petty things, no one knows how to communicate. They ended up talking behind peoples back. A lot of the girls are caught up in the light skin vs. dark skin thing. I was discriminated against because of my pale skin. I was disappointed I figured I would be welcome here because it's an hbcu, but people are people. It's just sad that black women still hate on each other. Overall people are pretty ignorant.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The guys and girls at our school are the best. We are all so different but it works out perfectly.

Guys & Girls: Students at Hampton do their own thing academically but socially everyone has the group of people of friends or people they hang around with. Who ever you feel most comfortable with at HU is who you will most likely be in a social setting with, whether at the cafeteria, parties or sporting events.

Hampton has a reputation of having the cream of the crop guys and girls. HU girls are the talk of the town. Locals and HU students are thrilled to meet young women from Hampton. The same applies to the HU men. There is an array of guys that attend Hampton—from the urban chic and preppy to the hipsters and dancers. Hampton is a melting pot of guys and girls from all walks of life. Each and every guy and girl has something to offer to their peers, the campus, and the Hampton Roads community. You can meet a great guy or girl in passing on the way to class, walking the waterfront, relaxing in the student center, or pretty much anywhere on campus. Everyone is traditionally friendly and social. Hampton has a great social atmosphere. HU is well known for having a campus with the most gorgeous women around. The only downfall is that all these gorgeous ladies way outnumber the guys. HU guys and girls take great pride in their status as Hamptonians. The most exciting event is the Miss HU Pageant, and the guys have the joy of seeing the ladies dress to impress in evening gowns, swimwear, and business wear. HU is in a class of its own when it comes to social interaction that you cannot find anywhere else.

Social Scene
Most students on campus are very social and friendly, even if they are not acquainted with you. It is not hard to find a niche, but it sometimes changes as the years pass because people transfer, are dismissed, or graduate before you do. Many students tend to find that the friends they have freshman year aren't going to be the friends they have when they graduate; it's very rare if they are.
Hookups or Relationships?
Freshmen tend to hook up with one another almost immediately after they arrive. It could have a lot to with the fact that they arrive a week early for orientation. After that first week, some of the girls hook up with upperclassmen guys or with local guys in the military. Some people prefer a more loosely based "untitled" relationship because it lessens the pressure and responsibilities a serious relationship can entail.
Dress Code
The University has a strict dress code which they outline in each and every syllabus given to the students. This prohibits halter tops, net shirts, hoods (in the classroom), baseball caps (in campus buildings), and "do-rags." This school is very fashion savvy and can almost be compared to a modeling runway. Girls put on their best clothes with stiletto heels they can barely walk in and pile on the makeup to walk to the same classes each and every day. There are some ladies you will never see without makeup. Most guys are pretty casual, but some prefer to have a fresh white T-shirt and expensive sneakers with every ensemble or dress with their suit and tie everyday for class.
Did You Know?
It is rumored that a long time ago when applying to Hampton, students would have to send a picture of themselves with their application.
