Guys & Girls: There is nothing but the most beautiful people at Hamilton.

Guys & Girls: A Hamilton student? Rich, Nalgene-carrying, athletic, smart, North Face-wearing, and an alcoholic on the weekends. Oh, and generally good looking.

Guys & Girls: The whole campus is very attractive, fun, and friendly. A typical student is fun, adventurous, and open. The downfall is that everyone tends to dress preppy.

Guys & Girls: I just visited a friend at another school over this past weekend, and it made me realize just how beautiful the Hamilton student body is. There are so many attractive people here. Sometimes, the superficial nature of many people gets to be upsetting, but there are plenty of wonderful people here as well.

Guys & Girls: Walking around campus in the spring or early fall makes my day. Attractive girls wearing attractive clothing serves as a great re-energizer. Especially after a long winter, short skirts are a welcome distraction from looming deadlines and memories of the winter's upstate New York wrath.

Guys & Girls: In my experience, dating someone seriously is really hard. The guys just want hookups, and the girls are all looking for Prince Charming.

Transportation: The Jitney offers all the amenities of a crowded 12-passenger van driven by psychotic upperclassmen with the comfort of sharing a seat with a drunken freshman girl who needs that open window now.

Niche User

Transportation: The Jitney is pretty useful. I wish it ran during finals, though. I've never used public transportation, but it seems convenient since the bus comes right on campus.

Niche User

Transportation: The campus runs a bus downtown, but it is difficult to get downtown without a car.

Niche User

Transportation: The Jitney is great for late-night runs to the bars, and good for the mall for those without a car, but otherwise, there's not much transportation.

Niche User

Transportation: It's not too hard to catch the Jitney or the bus, except when it snows.

Niche User

Transportation: Public transportation is very convenient. A Jitney drives us to a number of different locations immediately downtown and in neighboring towns to all the major locations such as Wal-Mart and the local mall. A car is not necessary on campus, if only for a matter of convenience.

Niche User

Transportation: It doesn't matter what the public transit is like. There's nowhere to go.

Niche User

Transportation: The school has a small bus running every day of the week.

Niche User

Transportation: You definitely need a car.

Niche User

Transportation: The Jitney is great for getting to popular places around town. It goes to the movie theater, the mall, and to the bars. Everything most students would need or want off campus is accessible through the Jitney service.

Niche User

Transportation: We have the free Jitney and a town bus with a cheap fare.

Niche User

Transportation: You can use the Jitney to get around and do your errands, but it's crowded, dirty, and always late. If you want to get anywhere on time, just bring a car.

Niche User

Transportation: Forget the Jitney and take a public bus. The bus goes everywhere the Jitney goes, and the bus actually shows up on a somewhat predictable schedule.

Athletics: Varsity sports are popular, and IM sports are also. It is easy to get involved with anything.

Niche User

Athletics: Varsity sports are fairly big here. We have a good deal of athletes, but from the administration's point of view, football is by far the largest-and incidentally the largest embarrassment. IM sports are definitely big here. Although we are a school that focuses on academics, our students like to kick loose and get a little taste of competition. With all of the IM programs we have, there's something for everyone.

Niche User

Athletics: Athletics are big. Same goes for intramural (IM) sports.

Niche User

Athletics: IM sports here are everything I could have asked for. I have made a good number of friends from kids who simply showed up to play, and the games never get so serious that anyone might go home upset. I remember skipping a required film viewing to go play IM soccer in the snow, and I don't regret a moment of it.

Niche User

Athletics: IM sports are fun, but sports are kind of a joke here.

Niche User

Athletics: We have a varsity streaking team. They're big.

As long as you don’t ask a Hamilton student about how much they love their school in the dead of winter, you are likely to receive an overwhelmingly positive response. Complaining about the school can sometimes appear to be the new cool thing to do and becomes increasingly more popular as the days grow darker, and homework and snow seem to endlessly pile up. But, if you listen to what students say, it’s more than likely you will find a strong undertone of affection for life at Hamilton College. This school offers its students an incredible opportunity to take advantage of an intellectual faculty and student body through small classrooms, supportive computer networks, and fairly magnificent campus facilities. While attending school, Hamilton students can sleep like royalty—as long as their lottery number is decent enough to score a nice dorm room—eat great food both on and off campus, and have snowball fights for more than half the year. Yet, in order to take advantage of their four years at Hamilton, they must be able to make the best of what can often be a trying and narrow life outside of academics. Not only is the Greek system still going through a certain amount of upheaval due to its lack of housing, but the nightlife available in rural central New York is fairly limited, especially for freshmen. It takes a particular level of creativity to realize that Hamilton College abounds with opportunities all of the time, it just requires a little originality and some time. There are many things to do beyond drinking every night, and it doesn’t take most students very much time to figure out how to make their own fun. Having a car can also make time spent here more agreeable, although even for freshmen, there is hope; most upperclassmen happily take pity on other students who don’t have the means to get off campus.

Change is constant at Hamilton College. Much of the campus has received a facelift in the past few years, and there is more remodeling planned for the future. Soon, Hamilton College will have a new look; dorms are being renovated, older buildings have been torn down and rebuilt, and a new student center is on the way. Current students are generally excited about the future of their college, and happily planning for the days when the entire nation will come to recognize what a great liberal arts experience Hamilton College can be.
