Academic Flexibility: My experience has been actually great at Halifax Community College. At first when I started I had major transportation problems and now that this is my third semester I am ready to buckle down and do what I have to do in order to be successful. I have only two classes and I am happy that I am able to attend my classes regularly and meet the deadlines for all of my work. I have never been a transferred student, but I am hoping to transfer in the next two years.

Online Courses: At first I was kind of anxious to take online courses, but after I spent amounts of working hard and showing excessive amount of effort, I was able to achieve my work. The teachers were always a big help to me and when I had any questions they would always be there to help me. I am glad that I had a teacher that was considerate in helping her students in every way she possibly could. The work was challenging at times, but I was able to maintain consistency and a great deal of improvement in my work.

Tuition & Financial Aid: The people in the financial aid department really take the time with you to explain the system and help you make sure that everything is in order. Yes thy are strict on some things but they have to be in order to do things efficiently and in order.

Tuition & Financial Aid: The Financial Aid workers are always eager to help and the tuition that I am paying to get the education i need is worth it.

Online Courses: The teachers does a great job of making sure that the class work is updated regularly, but I feel that the grades should be done better, and then we do have some teachers, that regardless of them putting their contact info down, it takes days to get responses.

Online Courses: i dont have any online class this sestemer the only classes that i have are math auto mech

Tuition & Financial Aid: The nursing program is worth the tuition. Some classes I felt could have been skipped. The financial aid office is pretty strict because of some issues they are having with federal aid.

Online Courses: The are very convient for each person's schedule. The professor/student relationship was great with one instructor but not with my others. There was peer interaction through discussion boards.

Campus Resources: We have a resource center and student support services that are great. The library is very helpful. The campus could be cleaner.

Campus Resources: The system has worked well most of the time. There are times it can be a little slow loading when a lot of people are on.

Campus Resources: There are activities and clubs to bring students together. There are a great number of student support services available also. The instructors I have had contact with seem to really want their students to be successful and are very helpful. I only had one professor who was disorganized and hard to work with and he is not there this year.

Campus Resources: Computer Labs – The computer labs on campus are great. There are people in place that will help you if there is a problem. Also, the computer labs are nice sizes and are equipped with many fast working computers.

Overall Experience: Simple and Pleasant – The overall experience is good. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about the things you need to be successful. Things ar simple and convenient for people who work full time or are parents. I like the clubs that are offered and there is always an community event being held. Very diverse, well-rounded school. Small, simple and pleasant but high tech enough to keep up with other schools.

Career Services: Some of the individuals who work in this department really try to help the students achieve the goals of finding work and internships. As with any place that you go, there are always some people who do not take their job as seriously as they should. The biggest problem is that the opportunities are very limited in this area.

Tuition & Financial Aid: The Education Is a Great Experience With a Price to Match – The instructors of Halifax Community College seem determined that's each individual that's being taught, will have a new learning experience that will benefit for them(the student) the chances for prosperity. The financial aid offers a pell grant that covers all expenses depending on the students level of income.

Student Body: The campus is mostly composed of early college students, older adults returning to school, and local screw ups. I don't mean this to sound the way it does but I don't like sitting around social areas for very long because I end up hearing how some guy got h*** from a drunk girl last night, how some guy pulled on a gun on some dudes, what drugs people are currently selling or taking, foul language, whose baby daddy didn't buy diapers this week and which girl or guy is the local slut of the week. It's sad that because the college is so conviently located and that there are not many options available to the residents of our area due to it being poor, they only really go to school most of the time to get the federal money and that's it. I hear people all the time talking about how the scholarship or grant they got is going to buy them and their friends tattoos, booze, drugs, etc. to party with. It's disgusting and heartbreaking to someone like me who intends to graduate, has a 3.85 GPA, who carries a 14 hour course load, works and is a mother. I think they should take better control over the student body and remind them that this learning institution is supposed to be preparing them for life, not a reality television show.

Campus Resources: We have a library, computer lab, student support service center, a wellness center, and an outdoor basketball area on campus. All of these areas seem to get utilized quite regularly. I do not spend much time on campus as a busy mom and student. I am usually in and out so I do not know the full function of these resources.

Online Courses: Blackboard Classes – I love the online blackboard courses in comparison to traditionally seated courses. I can complete the work in my own time and on my own schedule, day or night. The assignments are easy to understand, complete, and submit. If I have questions all I have to do is email the instructor. The workload is easier because I can cover the information at my own pace and I can start and stop assignments as necessary. If I would like to have the help or opinion of my peers, I just email the student users in the class. It's easier to register for online classes as well most of the time, because I feel a lot of students are too lax on their time management to adhere to an online schedule. It works great for me because I am a full-time student, part-time office employee, and full time mother of a 2 year old and a 6 year old. It's nice to be able to do my work no matter where I am at or what I have to get done. As long as I have my computer, downloaded assignments, or access to the web,I can complete my assignments virtually anywhere which is great when you have a family.

Academic Experience: Dental Hygiene Program – The program is in a nice area where you interact with only the dental hygiene. This is good because all the students get the same treatment and learn at the same speed.

Career Services: Career Center Is Very Helpful – The school has a career center called Job Link. They are very active in getting students placed in jobs after they graduate. One of the most important goals of our school is to make sure the students who graduate are well equipped for the job market.
