College Junior

Career Services: I have not looked into those options yet. But I will.

College Junior

Student Body: I do not start at Halifax Community College until Fall 2014.

College Junior

Academic Experience: I just got accepted into the RN program at Halifax Community College. Therefore, I have not yet to see how things run in that facility

3 College Junior

Academic Experience: Registering for class was easy. The hardest part was finding out information about private loans.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: The admissions office is ok but they seem a little "too" busy to help. Alot of things I had to go from person to person

Academic Flexibility: Some days with classes I can schedule it around my life as a mother and worker, but then others it's just not possible. You will have some teachers who will work with you, but then others who will not bend.

3 Recent Alumnus

Student Body: I wish there was more diversity on campus, because mainly all we are introduced to are those who went to high school with.

Recent Alumnus

Career Services: I haven't really spoken to career services yet, so I'm not quite sure.

3 Recent Alumnus

Online Courses: For the most part my online class experience has been terrific, but the only problem I have had was taking a course and my teacher gave us the wrong book, so she assigned pages and work to do and nearly failed the class. It took weeks for her to finally realize her mistake, though we had constantly told her since day one.

2 Recent Alumnus

Campus Resources: Honestly, I wish campus resources were more helpful. I could email and call someone from financial aid, dean of students or registrar and it will take days and sometimes weeks to get a response. By then the problem has come and gone and I'm often left in the dark.

5 Recent Alumnus

Campus Resources: No matter where you are on campus, you have WiFi and access to computers and printers.

3 Recent Alumnus

Facilities: The student life, though its a community college,we strive to have a huge student life where just like on a university campus we make life long friends.

4 Recent Alumnus

Academic Experience: My teachers are great and they make it worth while being a student.

4 Recent Alumnus

Academic Experience: The teachers work with you one-on-one, after school hours and getting to make a life-time bond with them is terrific. They have been references for jobs and internships for me and plenty of other students.

3 Recent Alumnus

Overall Experience: I had gotten sick and was hospitalized and even with proper paperwork they weren't willing to work with me in regards to my financial aid. I asked could they let me pay it out of my financial aid refund, they money that I owe but they told me they don't know. I have been trying to re-enroll since spring of 2014 and haven't gotten a answer as to what I can do.

4 College Senior

Academic Experience: The CIT and Networking degrees required a lot of technical classes that rearrange the way you think.

On campus classes are ultimately tougher than online.

Work study on campus is one of the best things you can do during your time here to earn money and experience. Especially for those in the IT field.

3 College Senior

Academic Experience: Professors are top notch. Some noteworthy mentions as of Summer 2014:

Derek Lewis: History/Culture

Sandra Wheden: Public Speaking

Johnny Rascoe: Adobe Flash

Emmanuel Obi: Networking/Computer Science

Charles Wilkinson: English

Class registration is easy. See your advisor to get started, then register yourself online in later semesters.

The library provides tutors if you need help. Seriously, ask for help people!

4 College Senior

Tuition & Financial Aid: Everyone in Financial Aid works to get you the most you can have and monitors your progress, or lack thereof, to be able to earn more. A great bunch of people.

3 College Senior

Facilities: HCC makes continuing strides to be able to be seen as more than a glorified high school.

4 College Senior

Academic Flexibility: Teachers will allow students every opportunity to excel in their classes, provided the student is willing to work. Ingenuity means a lot here.

2 College Senior

Career Services: There are not many jobs around this area so it is hard for anyone to find themselves work, let alone rookie students.

4 College Senior

Campus Resources: The Wellness Center is open to students for a decent amount of time. It is a small facility so it can only be used when no classes are going on down there.

The library and student center helps out with whatever they can, and will help to find someone who can help if something is beyond their ability to teach.

Campus activities are few and far between.

The campus is kept looking pretty year round, inside and out.

4 College Senior

Campus Resources: Everything tech-wise at HCC is great, except that some students play online games, download torrents, and watch netflix over the wireless which can cripple the speed, especially at lunchtime. Laptops are available for purcahse in the bookstore at decent prices. IT support is provided for free to students by the Information Systems Department from 9-5 M-F.

3 College Senior

Online Courses: A few teachers let students get by without learning much, but most of the online instructors work you harder than if you were in class. I assume this is because of the anonymous nature of online education. With limited interaction between student and teacher, the harder work load will be easier if the student is self motivated and really knows their stuff. This does not always work.

3 College Senior

Student Body: Most HCC students are there to get a step up so they can get a job or launch themselves out of the area and on to better things. Most of the students are focused on their work and goals, but there are still quite a few who are their just for the PELL checks.
