3 College Freshman

Nightlife: I'm not that much into the nightlife aspect of college, but from what I've seen, it's average and decent if you look hard enough. Again, St. Peter is pretty small but there are places to go like Patricks and there are various events on campus at any time along with the Dive every Friday night. Mankato also isn't too far away for those who can drive out on weekends.

5 College Freshman

Nightlife: Gustavus is number three in the state for partying.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: I don't participate in parties that much but there is always something going on. Parties are easy to find (not easy to get into if you're a freshman) there is a weekly dance called the Dive which is open to all students and there is public transportation provided for students to get to and from parties.

3 College Junior

Nightlife: Many parties over the weekend, especially at houses off campus

4 College Sophomore

Nightlife: House parties are usually quite fun. Another thing that sets Gustavus apart from other schools is it is a wet campus. Meaning if you are of age you can be in possession and drink on campus. Drinking off campus can get you in trouble if parties get out of hand. It is always safe to have a sober friend for the night for someone to tell you when the party is getting out of control. Cops rarely bust parties but usually one bust happens in the fall and one happens in the spring. Wednesday night is often a party night for upperclassmen since they go to the bars. Also, Gustavus has a program called the GusBus that is a mini bus that drives around on Friday and Saturday night picking up students and bringing them to houses and bars around St. Peter. This is an awesome program because it is a guaranteed sober ride and diminishes drunk driving among students.

The nightlife in St. Peter is nothing to write home about, but it is much loved by the 21-and-up crowd. The three most popular bars in town—Patrick's, Willy's, and the Flame—all have a distinct crowd of students who hang out there, but it's common to "do the rounds" at all three on Friday and Saturday nights. All of the bars in St. Peter provide something that you can’t find in a bigger city: a place where you will always know somebody. Patrick's is almost completely dominated by Gustavus students, with a few townies who are willing to brave the drunken college scene. For those who don't drink, there are plenty of opportunities on campus to blow off steam such as at a concert, "Saturday Night in Lund," the Dive, or tons of other events that the Campus Activities Board (CAB) organizes for students to do on campus.

Because Gustavus knows that it is a small school in a small town, it works hard to provide students entertaining and exciting events on campus. In the past, it has brought artists such as Ben Folds and Lupe Fiasco to campus and consistently works to meet the demand of students for popular and free entertainment. CAB sponsors "Saturday Night in Lund," which brings free food (Buffalo Wild Wings, Chipotle, or Cold Stone) and free activities such as laser tag or miniature golf to the athletic arena. There are also occasionally guest DJs and other musical artists, and the arena turns into a club.

Patrick's on Third

As the largest bar in St. Peter, Patrick's is also one of the busiest and is a frequent hangout for students, faculty, and townspeople other than just on the weekend because of their delicious and reasonably priced bar food. Tuesdays are one of Patrick's busiest nights, with weekly trivia (the season's winner is provided with an all-expenses-paid tour of the Schell's Brewery in nearby New Ulm). Trivia nights also have cheap Schell's beer and free pitchers for teams who are savvy enough to answer specific trivia questions correctly. Drink specials are available every night of the week, though they aren't necessarily such a steal.

Willy's Tavern

Another common hangout for many of the Greeks and jocks, Willy's is larger than the Flame and also boasts the only dance floor in St. Peter.

Flame Bar

Though narrowly shaped and not ideal for the truly claustrophobic, the Flame has become a requisite hangout for many of the Greek organizations and sports teams at Gustavus. Cheap drink specials are offered almost every night of the week, and free popcorn is a definite plus. Plus, faculty shows up once in a while!

American Legion Post 37

This is a pretty cool bar filled with older townies. If you want to connect with some locals and visit a smaller space, check this place out. Remember-they don't accept checks/credit cards.

St. Peter

(507) 934-6435

Embassy Bar

Situated right in the heart of St. Peter's main drag, the Embassy isn't usually frequented by students other than on "Bar Crawl Night" during Senior Week. Usually, both the locals and the students who choose to spend an evening at the Embassy are there for the same reason-avoiding the crowd of college students.
