Advice on Finding a Job/Internship
  • Check out the career board for workshops, and frequent the job and internship books in the career center, since they are updated often. Have plenty of people review your résumé, and take advantage of employers who come directly to campus to interview students-you will have far fewer competitors than when the job is advertised outside of the school.
  • Don't have any reservations about signing up for mock interviews-not only is there a lot less pressure, but the critiques are also exceptionally helpful.
  • Even though students wait until their junior year to visit the career center, it's best to familiarize yourself with the office and its services early on. There are plenty of resources available for students, though common perception on campus is that the majority of jobs advertised is for those entering business professions.
  • Even though the career center has opportunities for all majors, your best chances of finding a job or internship is through networking and connections. Start early! There is simply no other way to go about your job and internship planning than to be active early on in the year, particularly if you are hoping to have a January-term internship.
