3 College Senior

Nightlife: A lot of frat parties on the weekends

4 College Sophomore

Nightlife: There are 31 fraternity house on campus, so during most weekends at least one of them is throwing a big party. Each person likes a different vibe at different frat houses and it takes time to see where someone fits in best. The parties are a nice stress reliever, after worrying about turning in assignments and studying for tests dancing and talking to other people becomes a necessity.

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: You can choose between frat hopping and Greek life and partying in the city (Midtown/Downtown/Edgewood/Buckhead...). Tech is in the heart of Midtown Atlanta and it is surrounded by great food, bars, clubs, whatever it is you want! There are also a lot of bands and artists that have concerts in or near Atlanta, and several music festivals, such as TomorrowWorld, Counterpoint, Shaky Knees Festival.

If you're not into clubbing, there are a lot of bars around the city. If you're not interested in bars either, Greek life is very active for those who seek it.

3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: It's okay if you choose to go out. Prefer sports

Nightlife: I never go to bars/clubs but frats are always safe and fun. It is also great that the midnight rambler and stingerette drive around a lot and can give you a ride rather than walking

Tech is known for not being a party school, but, as in most cases, it's all in who you know. The school only has 12,000 undergraduate students, compared to the 30,000 to 40,000 students at most state universities. Tech is known as a research institute, and consequently, the social scene might seem a little lame for people who expect to find a party on every corner on any given night. Tech students still know how to have a good time, and parties usually boast live music, lots of people, and plenty of fun.

Off campus, the bar and club scenes are more than enough to add spice to student life. Charlie G's is a favorite hangout for Tech students. They have excellent sandwiches, buffalo wings, and salads. For a good bar experience in midtown, you can try the Prince of Wales or Café Intermezzo. The local hot spot for bars is in an area called Virginia Highlands, east of campus along Virginia Avenue and North Highland Avenue. Limerick Junction, an Irish pub on North Highland, boasts live music of the Irish persuasion and an open mic on Tuesdays. If you don't have Irish in your blood, however, you can step over to Blind Willy's next door, and enjoy a night of blues at the South's best blues club. If neither of those fit the bill, Dark Horse Tavern, a popular club and bar, is located on the same block.

Club ListingsWhat's This?

Clermont Lounge

Home to Blondie, a stripper famous for crushing a beer can in her breasts, this strip club/nightclub is a popular and funky dancing place on Saturday nights. Expect to be shocked here.

789 Ponce De Leon Ave. NE

(404) 874-4783

Havana Club

This club plays salsa music and Top 40 and caters to an older crowd. This is a very fun place to dance, and you can buy cigars here, too.

247 Buckhead Ave. NE

(404) 869-8484

The Masquerade

Located in what was once a mill in the early 1900s, Masquerade boasts three clubs in one-Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory. The clubs feature all genres of DJs imaginable and live concerts.

695 North Ave. NE

MJQ Concourse

The subterranean MJQ pulsates with everything from punk and industrial rock to house and R&B. A wide mix of people meet here on weekend nights, including Tech students, young professionals and die-hard clubbers, many dressed in the hippest Euro-wear.

736 Ponce de Leon Ave. NE

(404) 870-0575

Opera Nightclub

Opera is the club that is most popular with Tech students, especially younger ones, as it is 18 and older. They have many live acts, DJ's, and musicians perform. Many students like to spend their weekends at Opera, especially when they are having themed parties.

Bar ListingsWhat's This?

Moondogs caters to the young professional crowd, with high frat boy attendance on weekends. There are sexy bartenders, cheap drinks, and four full bars.

3179 Peachtree Rd. NE

(404) 231-4201

Neighbor's Pub

Neighbor's is usually filled with yuppies, but there is also almost always an Emory section, too. This bar in the Highlands has a huge deck, which is wonderful on nice spring and summer nights, and is within walking distance of numerous other bars.

752 N. Highland Ave. NE

(404) 872-5440

Famous Pub & Sports Palace

A huge sports bar nestled in a strip mall, Famous is a great place to spend a football Sunday or a weekend night for their cheap drinks and good food. Don't try your fake ID here, though; they can always spot a youngster.

2947 N Druid Hills Rd.

(404) 633-1425

Moe's & Joe's Bar & Grill

Decorated like a mom-and-pop store from the `50s, Moe's & Joe's looks more like a place for soda and ice cream than a nice cold beer. However, the $3.25 pitchers of Pabst on Tuesdays will quickly dissuade customers of that notion.

What to Do if You're Not 21What's This?

Frat parties

Most underage students opt to just stay on campus and go to frat parties. Since Atlanta isn't a college town, bars and clubs actually check IDs, so you've got to have a pretty good fake. It really isn't an issue, though, if you can't get into a club or bar because there's so much to do on campus.
