Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Furman students are generally crazy about their school. Although it's not for everyone, the ones who decide to attend usually find it a great match. The academic programs at Furman are a huge draw. Students appreciate the quality of education they are getting and the personal attention they get from their professors. And although the workload can be stressful at times, Furman's idyllic campus makes it difficult to sustain any level of stress for too long.

It's true the Furman bubble may seem out of touch with the real world at times. Sometimes, it seems like you are surrounded by homecoming queens, class presidents, and valedictorians. But despite a few complaints, no one seems to want to leave. Just ask anyone on campus. Furman students love to talk about why they love their school.

Guys & Girls: Dating is so weak at this school. It can be very hard to intermingle and I'm not quite sure how I got my current boyfriend, but I don't know how the hell I'm going to go about finding someone else if we break up.

Girls are very beautiful here, the guys are more average. There are a range of students dressing up or in sweats in class. I don't party, but a lot of people complain that the party scene is ridiculously weak.

Computers: Printing is limited, but it's a very high limit, and if you run out you just ask for more. Network and wifi speed sucks. They really need to boost it. There are many computer labs, so that's never a problem, but sometimes computers stop working and it's a while before they're fixed which is bothersome when you're in a smaller computer lab.

Greek Life: The majority of girls are in sororities. Far fewer guys are in fraternities, though there are fewer male students overall. The Greek life at Furman is very understated. By that I mean, it's very far from the intensity and stereotyped nature of Greek life at big state schools. Greeks are friends with non-Greeks, it's not a huge deal, but people can feel left out if they're not part of Greek life.

Greek students live in designated halls a part of the dorms.

Weather: This past winter was terribly cold for the south, pretty miserable. The weather is pretty sporadic, but overall, it's not bad. Doesn't really affect the campus experience I don't think.

Academics: I chose one of the hardest majors: neuroscience. It's extremely difficult. There are a lot of classes and a lot of very difficult, high-level classes to take. I'm also pre-med, but a lot of the classes in my major overlap with the pre-med requirements. Benefits are I get to take a bunch of great classes with a bunch of great teachers.
