Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Be involved in high school extracurricular activities.
  • The better your GPA, the better chance you have of getting in. A GPA of at least a 3.0 is preferable.
  • Community service hours look great on your application.
  • Even if you have good grades, make sure you are well-rounded. Colleges love seeing students who are active in many different groups.
  • Get your application in earlier rather than on time or late. The sooner you turn it in, the sooner it can be looked at.
  • Take the SAT seriously. If you don't get a good grade the first time, take it again. Retaking it helps increase your score and chances of getting into college.
  • Try and have a clean criminal record when applying. Not necessary, but it helps.
  • Try taking an AP course your senior year. Not only does it look good, but if you pass the AP exam, then that is one less college class you need to take.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Some dorms only have three washers and three dryers for the whole building to do their laundry.
  • The cafeteria has very limited hours on the weekends.
  • The dorms are very noisy. It is hard to concentrate and do homework with everyone screaming and yelling. The library will become your new best friend.
  • The weather is very bipolar. You look outside one minute, and it is sunny. Two minutes later, you check again, and it is snowing. The weather is unpredictable.
  • There is not much to do in the area. There is one mall, and that's about it. You provide your own entertainment.
Interviews & Information Sessions
There are usually three open houses scheduled for the fall semester, and four scheduled for the spring semester. If you want to know when the next open house is or you wish to schedule a private tour, call the Office of Admissions at (301) 687-4201. Interviews for college entry are not required. But if you wish to apply for specific department scholarships, then you may need to do an interview or audition.
Campus Tours
Campus tours are available Monday through Friday at noon and take approximately an hour. To register for a weekday visit, call the Office of Admissions at (301) 687-4201.
Overnight Visits
There aren't any special overnight visitations for prospective students. However, if prospective students know any current students on campus, they could always stay with them to get an idea of what Frostburg life is like.
