Majors: I have two majors: Pure Mathematics and Chemical Science. I personally love the two programs. The teachers in both are very well-versed in their fields and very dedicated to the students (all the teachers I had were, anyway). I haven't narrowed down my direct career path, but luckily there is a chemistry professor who is very invested in me and is willing to help me find a good fit for me; I meet with him at the end of the week!

Diversity: The school is pretty diverse and there are many active clubs on the subect

Majors: I was enrolled in the FSU-Teach program for a semester, and was able to go into the classroom and teach right away. There was a lot of planning and effort that went into it, but the rewards were great, seeing the children's face light up when they understood a new concept. There was no pay; it was strictly for experience and exposure to the classroom.

Transportation: Public transportation at FSU is incredible. There are buses that travel both on campus and off campus and arrive about every five minutes. Also, there is a safe bus that will take you wherever you need to go at night free of charge.

Parking: Unfortunately, parking is usually horrible. I've heard stories of students having to drive around for 1 hour+ looking for a parking space. My advice is to come to campus at least an hour before class if you need to find parking. FSU has recently added parking garage apps (available for iPhones and Android) that let you know the availability of parking in the parking garages so that is definitely helpful. The best part is that parking is absolutely free!

4 College Junior

Computers: We're slowly upgrading to have both Macs and PCs. I think FSU is doing a good job in having the best and fastest computers available, whether the user prefers MACs or PCs!

4 College Sophomore

Greek Life: You know when it's rush week. If you're not a part of it, you can still tell who is rushing. From what I've heard, it's a blast, but if you're more low key, then it's not for you.

5 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: There are people from around the world. There is no reason to worry about avoiding someone whom you were not too fond of because the chances of you two meeting again on campus are slim.

Parking: There are quite a few parking garages, but you have to get there early in the morning to even dream about getting a spot.

Athletics: School spirit is huge here. Almost everyone loves our football team and packs the stadium. It's a great experience, and we all love our mascot and other traditions! The War Chant is incredible in person. Basketball is almost as big here, but the rest of the sports aren't as big, which is to be expected.

Weather: During spring, summer, and early fall, it gets pretty hot but never grossly humid. You can experience a nice chill during fall and winter, unlike in other parts of Florida, but you don't have to worry about snow!

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Pretty good. They are within walking distance. Love the sweet shop.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: There are a lot of choices for Greeks, but you don't have to be Greek to belong.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: There are multiple opportunities for all students to participate at different levels in a wide variety of sports. These are supported financially by the university as well.

Local Atmosphere: Everything in Tallahassee is surrounded by FSU as well as the college aged residents living there. There is a lot to do and never a boring moment!

3 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: Lots of stuff on campus, but off campus the activities are limited. Still, its not hard to find something to do

College Senior

Campus Housing: I imagine it would be nice, lots of food options and beautiful campus. Some dorms are like living in prison, but others can actually be pretty nice.

5 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: I love this school! It is so fun. There are a million things to do and being a part of FSU is an amazing experience. There is so much Seminole pride everywhere you go. In town we have the rez and a park or two, downtown, lots of resturaunts, bars, clubs, frats, sororities, mall, movies, and best of all football:) Definitely a fun place to be. Oh and it's very safe too. I have never felt unsafe here.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: This campus is really safe. There are a million ways to contact the police department and it is well lit at night. They provide many services so students never have to feel unsafe such as SAFE, the bluelight system, and the night nole. I have never had to walk outside alone at night and feel completely safe walking around with friends.

2 College Freshman

Parking: There are a lot of places to park. However, the parking garages that are near the main academic buildings are always full so parking can be a hassel. It is much easier to walk everywhere. If you are driving you have to leave at least 30 mins before class starts to find a spot. I dont recommend it.

2 Recent Alumnus

Computers: I haven't been enrolled at FSU in a decade, but their network was terrific when I was there, so I would expect that they have kept up with the times. I would definitely encourage a student to have his/her own computer.

Off-Campus Dining: Tallahassee is small city and does have some good restaurants, but it's not going to have the variety of large cities like Atlanta, Boston, NYC, Washington DC. Many of the restaurants do cater to students and are reasonably priced. I haven't lived in Tallahassee for 10 years, so things may have changed somewhat.

4 College Junior

Nightlife: There are tons of stuff for students to do at night at FSU. We have tons of pubs and clubs here that usually let in 18+ a few 21+ locations as well. And if clubbing isn't really your scene like it isn't mine. I have greatly enjoyed the free movies offered at FSU's Student Life Center with our full size theater and well as nicely stocked gaming area.

4 College Junior

Athletics: Varsity sports are a big todo here at FSU. It is rare to not see a single tailgate or hear of a viewing party for the weekends game. It brings in tons of revenue to FSU and the local community too.

5 College Junior

Campus Strictness: I think it is great that the campus has its own police station on campus. It makes the students that work and live on campus feel safer. Also they respond quickly. Personally I like the enforcement because it makes students that maybe heading down the wrong path with drinking or drugs for example to get a chance to see what they are doing is wrong and hopefully rectify it! The police roam all day and respond to emergency calls and notifications from our safety polls which light many dark paths around campus.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
