Athletics: Sports is exactly what FSU is about. Football and basketball are huge on campus and the students support for the Seminole's is outstanding. I have never been to any sort of sporting event at Florida State without losing my voice from cheering on our team.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: Most of the professors have in class participation in order to explain material in many different ways. Also, they normally hold great office hours and spend a good amount of time in class holding review sessions

3 College Sophomore

Academics: Most of the professors I have taken have had an obvious love for the subject, making it extremely easy to grow the desire to attend class everyday.

Athletics: To say that Florida State University is extremely school spirited with their sports is an understatement. We tend to focus on Varsity Football more so than the others but it's a life changing feeling being apart of our Game Day traditions. It's almost as though time stops and the most important thing is being dressed in your garnet and gold outfits cheering on your team and chanting with your fellow students and alumni in the stands
"F-L-O-R-I-D-A S-T-A-T-E
Florida State!
Florida State!
Florida State!
Woo!!" The whole excitement and experiences are comparable to non and I am blessed to call myself a 'Nole.'

Local Atmosphere: Everyone around seems to like FSU, unless of course you encounter a rival after a game. Also, since it is the capitol, it is not really the "college town" vibe you get during the summer. Yes, the campus is more calm, but not the town around it. The clubs are always having something going on.

Campus Strictness: Since the fall of 2004 Florida State University has removed the possibility of receiving "grade forgiveness". This previous Grade Forgiveness Policy allowed students a second attempt in a class to replace their previous grade and not have it affect their cumulative GPA. Now, however, students are able to drop classes before the end of the 7th week (minus exclusions) and be charged out of state tuition. I believe this is a positive change because although now it could potentially hurt the student (financially more so) it forces students to constantly thrive to do their best.

Computers: Florida State University offers a few places to access computer labs. Most people tend to bring their own lab tops which helps open space for those who do not. The library also features designated "quiet areas" as well as private study rooms and "smart rooms" for optimal educational focus.

Campus Dining: I don't recommend getting a meal plan, unless you plan to convert it to FlexBucks. Fresh foods and Swanee are a great experience for everyone, but not something you want to have to go to all the time. I go maybe two or three times a month, because I love breakfast food and the make-your-own waffles! There is a lot of different places to eat in the union though. Poppa John's, Chili's, Subway, and quite a few others, which is where I use my FlexBucks I converted. Also, there is tons of food all around campus.

Weather: The weather in Tally is really unpredictable. In one day it can vary by 30 degrees, and I wish I was joking. ALWAYS carry an umbrella with you!! It may look like clear skies all day and you walk out of class to a downpour. It doesn't snow, but it still gets pretty cold for Florida.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: The campus police have always been helpful. And they don't really tend to arrest people for underage drinking, even the local police (as long as you don't have a bottle in hand). My RAs were really friendly, there if I ever had questions and always brought donuts to our hall meetings! Only thing is you need to carry your FSU card with you. You need it for turning in tests or going into the libraries, you won't be allowed in without it.

Off-Campus Dining: There is a lot of dining options off campus. There are fast food restaurants so if you are eating on a budget or there are more upscale restaurants to choose from. The campus provides the students with a card that gives you discounts at a lot of fast food restaurants. I love it because there is a lot of variety also. If I am craving Chinese, Mexican, or Italian there are several different places to choose from.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: The University has a lot of different clubs etc. which makes it easy for you to meet friends and people that are your ethnicity or religion.

Health & Safety: I feel very safe at the FSU campus. There is a police department on sight and if you need a law enforcement officer to escourt you to your vehicle they will assist you. The campus has it set up where students can receive text messages on their cell phones when there is some type of crime at the school. The school also has good lighting at night which makes me feel better when walking to my vehicle.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Cops can be strict with drinking but they're not very active.

Campus Housing: Buildings are pretty rundown and the dorms are nasty and bug ridden.

4 College Junior

Greek Life: The Greek Life is very strong and an active presence on campus.

1 College Freshman

Parking: The parking on campus is awful. There are hardly any spots open and often times you have to drive around for a while before you find anything, if you even are able to find anything.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Depending on where you go and who you are with, drugs can sometimes be around, but nothing has ever been an issue with drugs. There have been no major problems

4 College Freshman

Transportation: There are multiple different bus routes running all day. Some are on campus, and there are even ones that go from on campus to off campus.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I rate our campus housing an A- because although there are some really nice options for freshman and upperclassman housing, there are also some really bad dorms that my friends have been in. They are building new dorms though!

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Although some of our sports teams haven't been successful, I rate them an A because of how big of a part it is on campus.

3 College Freshman

Parking: Parking on campus can be difficult to find but it is possible. There are no permit costs at all so you don't have to worry about the extra fee. You don't need a car on campus but it is nice to have one.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The police policies are very strict and no nonsense. They don't take these offenses lightly. You get written up and sent to a court hearing with the first offence especially if it is drugs.

4 College Junior

Nightlife: Nightlife at Florida state is very vibrant! there are so many places to go and people to meet. Florida state also offers the night nole so that you can ride the bus home after the night out.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
