Weather: Never too hot, not too cold. I'm on a satellite campus so we have normal south florida weather.

Campus Dining: Im on a satelite campus so we dont use flex dollars. Just normal restaurants in town.

Nightlife: The night life in Tallahassee is huge. there is literally something to do Monday to Sunday. Bars/ clubs have special nights during the week where they give discounts as well. Since most kids live alone they also have plenty of parties during any day of the week.

Athletics: varsity sports at Florida State are huge. We have a pretty big rivalry with 3 other school teams and the games are fun. the students tailgate and also have watching parties at their houses during the season.

Drug Safety: Alcohol and drug visibility is really high at my school. Drinking is the most popular activity but I have witnessed other drug related acts such as smoking.

Local Atmosphere: The atmosphere on campus is incredible. However, the area directly around the school is not the best. While there are many restaurants and the downtown area is neat, there isn't very good shopping and not many attractions. The safety on campus is great. The attitude toward students is almost always nice as well.

Parking: Parking on campus is horrible. While permits are free (included in your tuition), there are very few overnight parking areas and some lots can be confusing to know if it is overnight or not. Tickets are very expensive and sometimes you can be towed.

Health & Safety: During the day things are pretty safe, after dark you need to be aware of your surrounding.

Weather: So far sunny Florida hasn't disappointed. Most days are rather sunny, some are getting a bit chilly, very few rainy days. I hear campus gets rather cool for a few days over the winter.

Diversity: FSU is predominantly white. Of course, I see people of other races and religious affiliations but their size is negligible. Being from Fort Lauderdale, I've never sat in a classroom with more blonde heads than brunettes, so this fascinates me.

Computers: There are PC and Mac computers available for use for students in multiple libraries and computer labs on campus. Printing is also available in the libraries. Wireless access is available everywhere on campus.

Majors: My major is Communication Science and Disorders. It is a limited access major, which means only a certain amount of students are accepted to the major. I enjoy all of my classes, even though they are difficult. All the professors in the major are very helpful and want to help their students succeed.

Off-Campus Housing: Many new apartment places have been built this year and are amazing and close to campus. It is reasonably priced and many of the come furnished, are gated, have free parking, and come with a pool.

Parking: You need to leave 30 min early to find a spot close to your classes unless you have 8am classes.

Nightlife: I am not involved in many activities when it comes to partying. However, there are many pep-rallies, club/social gatherings, and other events I sometimes attend. There are public buses that transport students to where they desire to go. House parties can be attended for free-the food, music, and entertainment let you enjoy yourself while you celebrate and mingle with others.

Drug Safety: There are very few incidents in which alcohol or other drugs are used on campus. The staff at my school are pretty strict about the usage of drugs. If a student is using drugs, they may suffer minor consequences. There is sometimes peer pressure to enhance drugs and even smoke. Many people just want to fit in and be a part of the in-crowd. Therefore, they give in to peer pressure and make the wrong choices.

Parking: My high school(Boynton Beach Community High School)requires all upper-classmen to have a parking deco. I deco is a pass you must show to faculty and staff. If you did not purchase one, your car will be towed and a fine will be submitted. My school provides a parking lot specifically for students and another for visitors and staff.

Scholarships: Hard to find but easy to get when you find something that actually works. Not enough scholarships available to make the student comfortable about money issues.

Academics: I am a Mechanical Engineering student and my program is no joke. It is difficult but doable, there are some helpful teachers and some unhelpful teachers but usually if you ask the right questions they try to answer. Workload is crazy, I am alive thanks to caffeine. Curriculum is busy and it makes sure you understand the material. Facilities could definitely be better, our library has been renovated and bigger classrooms opened but some parts of the college definitely need renovations and upgrades. Graduates have found jobs in 2-3 months of looking for them. Internships are common.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
