Scholarships: Brand new system just went up that the Financial Aid Office does not know how to use, so you'll have to be patient when receiving your aid. It could take awhile, but it's pretty hit and miss. For some people it goes smoothly, and for others they have to wait weeks.

Campus Housing: Campus housing is the worst. Avoid it if you can. Most expensive housing option and good luck finding a place to keep your car on campus.

Greek Life: Greek life is huge on campus. Join it if you want, or don't. It doesn't make a difference to anyone else.

2 College Senior

Diversity: Acceptance is not really an issue, however campus is not very racially diverse at 80% white.

4 College Senior

Campus Strictness: Campus is not very strict. Good rule of thumb: don't do anything stupid.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing is readily available due to the fact that most FSU students must live off-campus. It is certainly cheaper than on-campus housing, but you are going to need a car. Be prepared to fight for parking.

3 College Freshman

Academics: Popular major but comes with a lot of research opportunities

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Not a lot of talk about drugs but a lot of alcohol

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Small town, not a lot to do for younger people the farther you get from campus

3 College Freshman

Computers: I have my own computer and do not know much about computer labs on campus

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Not a lot of nicer/healthier options

4 College Freshman

Transportation: On-campus busses are great and convenient but off-campus travel is difficult without a car

5 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greeks contribute a lot to the school

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Public school, not many scholarships offered

3 College Freshman

Diversity: Pretty diverse school and people are accepting

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I would recommend freshmen to live on campus their first year

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek life has a very strong presence at FSU, but they seem to be quite selective and at times shallow.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: It is important that students have their own computer or access to a computer outside of school because at times it is difficult to find a computer in the labs or library. The wireless on campus is very reliable and there are two different networks, which ensures that you will always be able to get a connection. Also, the libraries have printers, but I would also recommend buying your own printer because printing costs can get to be expensive over time.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Like anywhere else, on campus you have to be aware of your surroundings. FSUPD is always available and are frequently seen patrolling campus. There are a number of robberies that take place on campus, which is why if traveling alone at night it is important to consider taking the safe bus or night nole home.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are hundreds of dining options in Tallahassee for a variety of different tastes. Most places are moderately priced, and have coupons for students. It seems though, that if you are interested in healthy or vegetarian/vegan food, there aren't many options.

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: It seems that students are welcomed in Tallahassee, due to the fact that there are many options for entertainment geared toward students. Also, there is sufficient shopping and cultural events that take place.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: There is a large variety of different housing options off-campus near Florida State. The apartments closest to campus vary in quality, but seem to be a little more expensive. The bus system, however, is very efficient and reliable, so even if you don't have a car, living further from campus is still an option.

4 College Senior

Academics: The school has some top-notch programs such as a great film school, a leading real estate program, and a top-notch risk management and insurance program as well. Most students don't take advantage of these opportunities but increased academic funding from the past three years does increase the school's academic potential.

3 College Senior

Campus Strictness: Strictness is rather selective. Violations with felony potential (like drugs and alcohol) are taken very seriously but noise and visitation are usually looked the other way. Its also pretty hard to set protests/demonstrations (haven't seen one since I started college).

2 College Senior

Nightlife: The opening of Madison social makes Tallahassee even more of a nightlife venue than it should be.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
