Off-Campus Dining: Tallahassee doesn't have the food options that a big city would have, but there are lots of options close to campus that fit the budget of a college student and more expensive options a drive away from campus.

Weather: It stays warm for most of the year, with the exception of January and February. The biggest annoyance are the summer storms at the beginning of fall semester.

Local Atmosphere: Although Tallahassee is the state capital, it is still a college town and feels empty when students are not around. There are definitely things to do if you know where to look.

Campus Dining: There are two dining halls on campus as well as a variety of other options across campus and at the student union building where you can use your flexbucks and garnetbucks.

Campus Strictness: FSU is fairly good at making sure students follow the campus rules, especially when considering how large the campus is.

Overall Experience: If I had to choose my school again, I would definitely choose Florida State. It offered me a diverse student population, lots of academic choices, and the opportunity to watch lectures by important people such as Joe Biden and Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Computers: There is wifi available throughout most of campus, which is very lucky, but it's only good when it actually works. I have often had problems connecting to the wireless while in my dorm.

Greek Life: As a non-Greek, I can still very much feel the presence of sororities and fraternities on campus. Greek life is a very popular thing here.

Athletics: There is so much love for Florida State here, both for the athletic teams and the school in general. People are generally very proud to be a Nole.

3 College Senior

Parking: There is not enough parking for the large number of students on campus, but having a car is still useful if you plan on doing activities off campus. You just need to learn the traffic patterns on campus.

5 College Senior

Facilities: The workout facilities are newly renovated and really nice to use. The student union building is central to student life and is located conveniently, especially if you live on campus.

Off-Campus Dining: Some pricey, and none do discounts.

Transportation: Great in the long run with money. Uses student ID.

Weather: Not much of an affect for a solid answer.

Health & Safety: I haven't had much interaction with the health center or the police so I can't offer an in-depth review of either one. However, I will say that I do feel safe walking around campus. I'm typically walking around campus alone and in the day time I think nothing of it. I try not to walk around alone after dark simply because the campus is huge and my routes typically take me through or by buildings that are still operating during evening hours, so anyone could be out or around. There have been periods where campus crimes seem to happen frequently but I've never personally been harmed or accosted while on campus. I generally feel safe on campus but I am aware that no place is 100% secure and that I should be cautious; especially as a woman.

Diversity: No place is perfect, but this school is very accepting to people who are different. At this school very few people would blink at someone being homosexual and there a variety of groups centered around and led by students of different ethnic groups. For example, there is an Asian Student Union as well as Black Student Union and a Caribbean Student Association. There are women's groups and LGBT groups and a wide variety of religious groups. On campus for example there are permanent structures run by Methodist student groups, Episcopal student groups and Baptist student groups. During Holy Week the Catholic student group held public services on the green in front of the honors dorm in the center of campus. There is an atmosphere at this school that encourages students to carve out a space for themselves as well as offer places where students can find people like themselves. This is one of the things I love most about this school.

Off-Campus Dining: There is always a new place to try near this school. There are local places near campus that are available to students as well as recognizable chain restaurants. There is a spate of eateries down one of the main roads that runs parallel to campus so no matter which side of campus you live on you're near a place to eat. If you have a car you have access to the nicer restaurants in the greater metropolitan area/downtown, but car-less students can still hoof it to places that are not McDonald's.

Parking: The only times it is easy to find parking is at night on the weekend. During the day, especially on week days, finding a parking spot is next to impossible. Friends of mine have relayed stories where they've spent 45 minutes just driving around campus trying to find a parking space. Thankfully the need for a car is pretty low on campus because there is a university bus system. This school-sponsored bus system can be extremely helpful since a trip across campus can take 20-25 minutes on foot, depending on how quickly you walk.

Local Atmosphere: It's perfect for college but once I graduate I would not want to live there any longer.

Transportation: Even if you don't have a car, the bus systems are AMAZING!

Campus Strictness: The school is strict when they need to be but not overpowering.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
