4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: There is a college police station on the edge of campus that makes rounds at night to check for safety. I have walked alone at night many times, but I have only done it because I have to. I always prefer walking with a friend.

Local Atmosphere: There is enough in Tallahassee to keep people entertained, but I do not think I could live there after college. There are movie theaters, malls, parks, good restaurants, and more. But I can't take part in these attractions the same way I can when I am back home because I don't have the time or money during the school year.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: There is a lot of diversity at the school. There are jocks, nerds, musicians, etc. But I enjoy it greatly because I learn new cultures and styles through them. If there are people I don't like, I ignore them because the campus is big. So, there is a small chance that I will see them.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I have Bright Futures, which is easily deposited to my college banking account. I do not have any scholarships through the actual college.

Facilities: The college is absolutely breath-taking. I will never get tired of walking around the beautiful campus, especially on a sunny day when everyone is outside walking around. The libraries are great study areas, but get very hectic during finals week. There are countless activities to do around campus. Students can see a movie at the theater, play video games, go bowling, enjoy music at our club, and more. Homecoming is a great tradition that people get excited for.

Campus Dining: The dining halls are just average. I used it only for a semester. During that time, the food got boring quickly. Not much variety. However, I really like the restaurants on campus, such as Chili's, Chik-fil-A, Freshens, Pollo Tropical, Starbucks, and more. I don't use the meal plan. But when I decide to eat on campus, I am usually satisfied.

Athletics: I absolutely love football season! Its the best time of the year, and I cannot wait for it to begin again. I especially appreciate the fact that all sports games are free to students! Also, I love participating in the intramurals. They are a lot of fun, and a great way to exercise.

Off-Campus Housing: There are so many different kinds of places that are available at FSU. There are really inexpensive decent places or places that are much nicer for a little more money. It is very easy to find something that will fit your budget and needs.

Campus Dining: Like with anywhere you eat at 7 days a week for two semesters (or more) you will get tired of the food. Often times you'll try to be healthy by just getting a salad but you can only eat so many leaves.

Scholarships: I am out of state and get a decent amount in scholarships. I do wish I had gotten more but for such a big school I believe I got a good amount of financial aid.

5 College Junior

Nightlife: The nightlife is one of the best things about FSU. Every night of the week there is something going on so you're never missing out but there's also always something to do.

5 College Junior

Majors: My major is Elementary Education. I only have 30 students in each of my classes. I get hands on, personal experience where I get to go work in a school and actually test the material I am being taught. It is a very intensive major, however I feel that I am truly becoming prepared for a real job in the field of education.

College Junior

Majors: I have not had an internship at FSu yet. Many people go abroad for their internships.

4 College Junior

Guys & Girls: There's a great social life at FSU. Students are extremely fit and are very into self image for the most part. Social life and going out is huge.

5 College Junior

Athletics: We have some of the most state of the art equipment that is available for student use for free. Almost everyone participates in intramurals, whether they are in Greek life or not. Our varsity sports are literally some of the best in the country.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: Not all freshmen get on campus housing because it's so popular even with the upperclassmen. Living on campus was a great experience I highly recommend, it can just be tough if you sign up too late. I recommend signing your housing contract immediately after being accepted (this goes for any university, not just FSU).

3 College Junior

Diversity: Not a very diverse school for the most part. Greek life dominates and for the most part greek life is pretty homogenous.

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: There are safe busses to take you anywhere on campus after dark for free. Taxis in Tallahassee are also only $4 with your student ID to go from a bar or fraternity to an apartment or dorm. There's also a bunch of other measures the police department has like texting them to tell them you're home safe.

5 College Junior

Facilities: The best most positive school to go to. There's always something to do whether it's going out or going to watch a free movie at the Student Life Cinema. Also, we're national champs.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Most students are from Florida so they go home several times a month, which is weird for out-of-staters, but overall everyone is friendly and welcoming.

3 College Junior

Diversity: From my experience everyone is accepted, but there isn't much diversity overall.

Off-Campus Housing: There is a lot of competition in the area since there isn't much on campus housing. You can find everything from luxury apartments steps away from campus to houses in the middle of nowhere and everything in between. It depends how much you're willing to pay and what kind of amenities you want.

Facilities: FSU has a great library system. There are several campus libraries, the main one being Strozier, located centrally on Landis Green. During the fall and spring semesters, Strozier is open 24/5, during weekdays, and for several hours on the weekends. Summer hours vary but the library is still open pretty late and is very accessible. The library has many computers - both PCs and MACs, so students can have their pick of what they like. If all of the computers are used up, or if you just want one, you can also rent a laptop - again, you have a pick of a PC or a MAC. The library also rents out phone chargers, cameras, projectors, video cameras, headphones, dry erase markers, and much more. Students withing to study privately, either alone, with a couple of friends, or with a study group can rent an appropriately sized study room. Study rooms have chairs, desks, outlets, and are well-lit. There are also several SMART rooms available on the first floor. These have SMART boards with laptop connectivity, projectors, dry-erase walls, and are very spacious. All of these rooms can be rented in advance online.

Facilities: Oglesby Union is in the center of campus. It is an area for students to hang out, grab lunch, or just sit and unwind. In Oglesby Union, there is a convenience store, cafeteria with Papa John's, Pollo Tropical, Miso, and Freshenz, a Chili's, Einstein Bros bagle shop, Salad Creations, and a Subway. There is also the UPS store, and conveniences such as ATMs and movie rentals. On Wednesdays, Oglesby Union plays host to 'Market Wednesdays' which are now an FSU tradition. Each Wednesday, private vendors will set up tables and sell anything from jewelry, to posters, to clothing and more. FSU Step teams always perform, and this is a great place for students to get information about various clubs and student organizations, as groups are always tabling.

Majors: I am currently enrolled in two majors. One, I have no fears about getting a job, but with the other major, it is a concern of mine (hence the second, 'safety' major). That being said, I love both of my programs. One of my majors offers an excellent study abroad program, which students typically partake in during the junior fall semester, which I did. The teachers and advisers were so helpful during the application/informational process, and mapping the rest of my college career around study abroad. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing about my majors.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
