4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: My parents mostly handle my financial aid so I don't know much about it. I get a sufficient amount of money to be comfortable in college and meet all my needs.

Guys & Girls: Greek life is huge at FSU. Most guys and girls are in sororities or fraternities. It is warm here in Florida so most people just shorts and tanks. The going-to-class attire is very casual. A lot of students play IM sports and there are many clubs you can get involved in.

Academics: Florida State University is very good with working with each individual student to make their experience here an enjoyable one. Registration is easy and simple. They offer almost any major you can think of and classes provide helpful information and promote learning. Most of the teachers are very helpful and concerned about each students grade.

Nightlife: Something to Do Every Night – There is something going on every night at FSU! Most of the clubs are 18-and-older so no one has a problem getting in, house parties are a common occurrence as well. The bus system here runs until 3:00 a.m. so getting home is never an issue.

Diversity: Outside the Bubble – Having attended a private Christian school for most of my life I am thrilled to go to a school with such diversity! I am living outside of my bubble of a high school, there are a significant number of white and African American people. Some of my teachers and peers are Asian, they are easy to understand and are very knowledgable about the information that they preach.

Scholarships: Scholarships were available for some, but they only seemed to be given to those with high enough test scores. There should have been more available for those students with average scores and high gpas.

Greek Life: Greek life is a big deal at FSU. There are always reminders of greek life around, whether or not you like it. Very dominating.

Local Atmosphere: The campus is beautiful and there are always activities going on. The school spirit when it comes to sports is fantastic. Going to the football games and supporting our Seminoles is so much fun.

4 College Student

Scholarships: The Process Was Quick! As long as one follows directions, it is easy to accomplish and provide all of the information that needs to be entered for potential financial aide recipients. Florida State has a smooth working website that allows you to edit and add information in regards to your student financial aide. It can be easily accessed by the student and is also easy to get around the finacial aide toolkit.

Facilities: Wednesday's Flea Market – FSU's organizations and clubs put together a flea market every Wednesday that shows off the unique qualities of each individual group! They offer free food, drinks, and incentives to attract potential members. It brings the student body together to meet new people through fun and games to show the student body what Florida States' fellow organizations have to offer!

Transportation: Seminole Express Is the Way to Go! Florida State provides free transportation via bus around campus-stopping at nearby apartment complexes. It saves gas and money! It runs from early morning to extremely late at night.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: An Extreme Hassle – I was able to get enough financial aid to cover my expenses, but it was not an easy task. Lots of meetings in the financial aid office and scholarship applications were required.

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: The city and campus never sleep. No matter what hours of the day, there is always something interesting and fun going on if you know where to look.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Dedicated campus police ensure that the campus is safe at all times and respond promptly if a situation does arise.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Good Sat – I recieved a decent-sized scholarship for my excellent SAT score - but I was rather peeved by the Fafsa's rigidity and inability to properly represent my financial needs. Im still in the ongoing process of trying to recieve more aid that I desperately need!

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Too Rainy – it rains a lot, making going to classes miserable!! but when its sunny, i enjoy hanging around outside.

1 College Freshman

Scholarships: Very Hard to Recive Aid – Florida State is a huge school with over 80,000 graduate and undergraduate students. I only was able to receive the standard loan which was downsized to an unsubsidized loan with less money when they changed my residency status. I understand that there are many students but financial strain does take a toll.

2 College Freshman

Parking: Get There Early! There are many parking spaces available, but few near the dorms or classrooms. To get a good parking spot, get there early. As soon as you move your car you will lose your spot. Also, DO NOT park in teacher parking. You will get towed and fined!

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There Are Many Options – There are so many options for choosing an apartments in Tallahassee. The prices depend on how close to the school they are and how nice and new they are. There is also shuttle buses that will take you to your apartments (or as close as they can). Finding one should not be a problem, but finding a nice, cheap one can be.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: They Mean What They Say – The campus police and the dorm security are very stict about the rules and school policies and do not hesitate to implement disciplinary action. The school takes this so serious that the The Florida State University Police shall be notified of all on campus events that are not regularly scheduled that plan to serve alcohol. These are the University State and Local Penalties. Possession or attempt to purchase alcohol by a person under 21 years of age, using a false driver's license ID or allowing someone to use your driver's license for an ID card and providing alcohol to a person under 21 has a typical first time offense resulting in Diversion program; $180 fine; 10 hours community work program with a maximum first time offense of 60 days jail; $500 fine. The biggest thing you can do to protect yourself from disciplinary action is to make sure you do not drink, try to obtain, or serve alcohol to any one under the age of 21.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: FSU although considered to many to be a "party school" has instilled in many the personal responsibility you have to yourself, others and FSU. There is a no tolerance for underage drinking, disorderly conduct, and drug use by the campus police. The majority of parties held on and off campus involve drinking while most do so responsibly, but there are a select few that have pushed the limit but ususally they do not get invited back to parties. There are many activities available that are drug and alcohol free. I feel that both men and women would feel comfortable at FSU and not presseured to partake in such activities.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: Fafsa is one of the best ways to get money for college. The application is usually available by January 2nd of each new year for the fall and spring semesters. Finacial aid can also be received for summer classes by applying for the Fafsa summer application. The earlier the application is turned in the better chance one has at receiving aid.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: FSU has a wide variety of students ranging from white American citizens to international students from China. As one walks the campus it is hard to recognize that much diversity, buts its there. There are many groups and organizations advertised on campus that open awareness about how much diversity there is. Acceptance at FSU is based on GPA and test scores. GPA is a higher teller of acceptance rather than test scores since the school wants to see if you will perform once you are accepted. A average score of both will get one accepted.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Places to Eat – Burger King which is cheap, but the quality is okay.
Mcdonals which is also cheap, but the quality is average.
Mr. Robotos is a Japanese lunch/dinner restaurant that is between the range of 8-15 dollars.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: The out of state tuition is much higher than the in state tuition, and I was offered very little money from the school, as an OS student. That said though, the tuition I am paying is not much higher than similar state schools in the north east (where I am from) for in state tuition.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
