Local Atmosphere: What's up in Tallaclassy? The clubs are fun but small and dirty; yes, it's the state capital, but honestly it's a pretty small city. Still, Tallahassee has a few nooks and crannies all her own. Railroad avenue boasts an eclectic group of small restaurants and shops, including Railroad Square, which I lovingly call Hipster Paradise. Lake Ella features a beautiful lake view and another group of quaint shops. So don't come to Tallahassee if you're looking for a thriving metropolis or the safest city around; however, I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere.

Transportation: It's Decent – Transportation at FSU is all right. They have a seemingly well planned bus system - they have or seven routes, each with 2 buses following the route from 7am-7pm. One of them loops campus and the other buses take students to off campus locations. The buses are free and only for students/faculty. However, they aren't totally reliable. The on campus one is supposed to be at its stops every 10 minutes and the off campus ones every fifteen minutes, but they are always late, and for something that could be the only way that some students can even get to class at all, it just seems like it should be reliable. A great thing though is called the night nole which is a bus system that runs at night from 10 pm - 3 am, and takes students from apartment locations to the strip to places around tallahassee to prevent drunk driving. the night nole is also free.

Also, students can ride for free on any city bus as long as they have their student id card.

Off-Campus Dining: TONS of Restaurants Around Town – There are a ton of restaurants immediately off campus, especially on Tennessee and Pensacola, which are the two roads that go right next to campus on either side. Within walking distance of the school is Chipotle, Ruby Tuesday's, Whattaburger, Jimmy John's, Panda Express, Subway, Sumo Sabi, and a bunch of other places. If you go to Appalachee - about a ten minute drive when there's no traffic, there's a Chili's, Logan's, Outback, Genghis Grill, Olive Garden, etc. And there is a TON of frozen yogurt places around.

Weather: Hot When Its Hot – Because it's Florida, and Tallahassee is inland, it gets really hot in the summer. But in the fall, there is nice weather and people lay outside a lot. In the winter and spring it rains a lot. I had to buy rainboots just so I could walk outside. The coldest it gets is highs of 40's.

Campus Dining: Fine for the First Semester – While I had a meal plan last semester, I went to the dining hall about 4-5 times a week. There are only two dining halls on campus. They offer good food, but after a while, it all seems the same. I also didn't feel like it was that healthy...probably because it was buffet style and I would eat about 3 plates of food. Other than dining halls, There are only 4 other places to eat on campus. They're all clustered in the union.

Athletics: Team Spirit Galore – At Florida State we are all about the Seminoles. Football season is pretty huge here. We have a lot of fans and alumni come and tailgate all over campus. Usually on game day, you cant find a bare patch of grass in a mile radius of the stadium. We have amazing facilities too. Our stadium is fairly new and our gym is great. We have an indoor pool, tennis courts, baseball stadium, a dozen soccer fields, and much more. No matter what sport you play, the students are always behind you 100%.

Facilities: It seems that even though there are 1000s of students at FSU, it is very easy to run into someone you know because the students on campus stay together and attend everything so no matter where you go in Tallahassee, you will meet a FSU student doin something entertaining.

Parking: From all the stories and from what I've seen, parking at FSU is a monster. There are never any spots and the towing company are ready to pick up any car at a moments notice. A car is not recommend for FSU unless you live far from campus.

Nightlife: Pretty Damn Awesome! I am underage and there is no problem find a club. All clubs allows 18yr olds and the clubs are all fresh. House parties are awesome too! Driving can sometimes suck but besides that the nightlife is amazing in Tallahassee

Off-Campus Housing: Osceola Village and West Ten – Probably two of the best off campus houing options. Osceola is right off campus and West Ten is a very nice, rich looking place too. There are other places off campus that are okay but some that you want to stay away from, these places include Frenchtown apartments or the like .

Computers: There is no wireless networks in most dorms but the Ethernet cables provide very fast internet. You can get wireless internet in many classrooms and on Landis. I have not been the most successful on Landis Green but some people are. The computers in the libraries are pretty new since the first floor was newly redecorated. It can get pretty busy but there are usually computers open at any time. If not on the first floor then on the floors above. Printers work really well and only cost 8 cents per sheet. It is very nice and convenient having your own printer and computer because it's cheaper in the long run. Plus having your own computer means you can take notes in classes that you would prefer to do so.

Health & Safety: Safe Place – tallahassee is a very safe city, and not much dangerous happens on campus. there have been isolated incedents.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Not Too Bad – The only thing I have ever seen the school be strict on is parking tickets, thats all I have been exposed to.

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Always Something to Do! There are always house parties, always something cool at the clubs, the people are always ready to have fun, and always lots of fun.

Campus Housing: The apartment style halls at Florida State are decent. You do pay a premium for living on campus and parking spots aren't guaranteed but I always feel safe. It's fun to be on campus when there are football games!

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Personally, Its Been Worse Than Expected – I chose this school over an ivy league because i assumed it would be cheaper for my undergrad. However thanks to their IDIOTIC housing system I am out almost the same amount I would be if I had gone to my top choice. To be told that you don't have housing two months before school starts after thinking you had it for months is devastating. My advice would be to do everything extremely early and if you need help from financial aid go in. Mornings are best, there's barely a line.

Guys & Girls: Modernized Mind Games – The romantic aspects of the student body are the one thing I am not proud of when it comes to my campus. I sometimes feel like alot of the guys who come to this school are only here to "get laid". This image has much to deal with the role models our generation has been given, but its quite unnerving for those of us who are looking for a serious relationship. Alot of the girls just feed their thirst. THey really should gain a little bit more respect for themselves. Just because your popular or a sorority girl does not mean you have to be a slut.

Diversity: A New World Within the Old One – Though it holds many traditions, FSU is always fighting to stay modern. The amount of diversity on campus great;y surprised me when I first arrived. The social customs and prejudices that poison the rest of the world are at a minimal here. There is of course the normal school aspects, but I find myself friends with people I never even looked at before, and the atmosphere of the school is what made that happen. Be it my on campus job, the clubs i join, or the campus activities, I never find it tough to make friends here. Which can be a weight off your shoulders when you've always been considered different and an outcast.

Scholarships: I haven't had any problems with the financial aid process. I submitted the documentation that I needed when I received my Florida Bright Futures Scholarship and also Florida Prepaid, and I was good to go.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: I haven't had any personal run-ins with the FSU Police Department, but I always see them cruising around at night making sure everything is safe on campus.

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: Drug Scene – There is some drug use on Florida State's campus, but I don't put myself around people who use them.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: The bus system at FSU is great!!! You can virtually get anywhere at anytime. They are on campus and off campus. Also, the airport is very close and plane tickets are cheap.

5 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek Life at FSU provides coutless opportunities to do community service and meet new people. Everyone is excited to help out around the community. I believe Greeks and Non-greeks get allong very well! Also, the housing is great heritage grove is a community of frat houses and its perfect for attending parties.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Fan Support – I find that FSU has the best fan support for all sports that they participate in. It is so nice to be amongst a group of students that respect and enjoy our college and our team so much! We are there with them through thick and thin and we all have so much faith in our teams!

4 College Junior

Facilities: Campus Life – I have no experiences of other campuses so I have nothing to compare it to...

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
