Greek Life: Active but Not Dominant – The Greek life at Florida State University is a flurry of activity. The focus and strength of this community lies in it's female members who are very active in the community and speak out for their causes.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: A Good Mix – There are mostly white students, but there is a very active Black Student Union. The campus is mostly very accepting, even encouraging to the LGBT community. There is a very strong and active P.R.I.D.E. student union.

Off-Campus Housing: The location of most the apartments are in walking distance to campus. If it is not, then there are the school buses that are available. The prices can be a little too pricey, but you just have to find the apartment that fits your budget. Parking is usually good for apartment dwellers, however, on-campus parking is a totally different story! Safety is average...

Campus Dining: Set to Starve – There isn't any on-campus dining for the Panama City campus of FSU. The only real option is going to the bookstore to grab a snack. They just added a new small cafe to the Holley Building. Their food is OK, but it would be nice to have more variety.

Local Atmosphere: Small Town College – Florida State University's Panama City campus is set on the Gulf of Mexico in a city more orientated toward older people. There's not much to do, but the people there are always friendly.

2 College Junior

Transportation: All Aboard the Trolley – The only actuall public transportation in Panama City is the Trolley and it is kind of a stop and go service. It runs once and hour, but I wouldn't hang my hat on it. It's best to bring your own transportation to school.

5 College Junior

Parking: Public Access for All – The FSU-Panama City campus has recently added a new building with more parking spaces for all its students. Each lot has easy access to it and guaranteed safety due to the frequent patrol of Campus Police. Plus, if you don't have a space Gulf Coast Community College's lot is directly across the street.

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: Campus S.W.A.T – FSU Panama City is a small campus so it gets the ultimate campus protection. Campus Police guard both, FSU-PC and Gulf Coast Community College, patrolling the two campuses perimeter every hour and checking for student decals and making sure no harm falls the students.

Weather: Tallahassee weather is great...for about a month out of the year. Usually it is raining or freezing in Tallahassee ad the only time to catch a break is at the beginning of Fall semester or the very end of Spring.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Sports Are Big – Varsity sports at FSU conjure up a lot of support. Football season is a specifically important time for socialization, team support, and overall school spirit.

5 College Junior

Nightlife: Party Party Party – Whether you enjoy a house party, bars, clubs, or a night in there is always something to do in Tallahassee. Most bars and clubs are 18 and older so there are no excuses to not get out and meet new people.

5 College Junior

Guys & Girls: No matter where you turn there is an extreme diversity among the FSU campus. There is nothing typical about any of our students, which makes for an even better experience.

4 College Junior

Computers: computer labs on campus are easily accessible and very user friendly. Anyone can use them and in most cases, simply supplying your own paper allows you to print for free. If you are in the library you can use the computers and printers at any time and it is inexpensive to print on their printers. Generally, the wireless internet access is fast and reliable. It is convenient to bring your own computer if you want to sit somewhere other than the computer labs, but it is not necessary.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Dining Is Easy – The dining off campus is very versatile since Tallahassee is sort of like a circle everything is pretty close. There is everything from Mc Donalds to La Fiesta. The pricing varies depending on the restaurant you pick, but overall the prices are pretty average. Most of the restaruants offer a student discount. I would have to say my absolute favorites are Chipotle Mexican Grill, Apple Bees, Outback Steak House, Zaxbys and for those late nights Checkers or Taco Bell.

Campus Housing: Old but Worth It – Many of the buildings are old but the location makes it worth it. If you are in an older building, it has been remodeled sometime in the near past and is either next to a dining hall or classes. The new buildings are gorgeous and still in great locations. FSU clearly put thought into the location of its student housing unlike many other universities that seem to have no rhyme or reason as to where their housing is located.

Off-Campus Dining: Not Just Fast Food – Just like any other college town, Tallahassee has an abundance of fast food which is very convenient. However, the sit down restaurants are a wonderful change of pace when you have the time. Most of the cost is pretty affordable, but on an average college budget you would't be able to eat out every night of the week. A great seafood place to check out is Harry's. Harry's has an awesome southern comfort style menu, which boasts fried grit cakes which are tremendous.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: Library Is State of the Art – The main library, Strozier Library, situated in front of the beautiful Landis Green has recently been renovated and is state of the art. It has plenty of study rooms with smart boards available to aid in group learning. The free tutoring zone is awesome and the library is open 24 hours a day during the week which is very convenient. The environment at Strozier is amazing and makes your hours spent there worth while and in comfort.

Weather: Tallahassee is very hot and humid most of the year, for a native it doesnt bother me much, but to others it might. The beginning of Spring semester is never fun while walking around campus, it's humid, rainy and freezing, rainboots and umbrellas are a must have.

1 College Freshman

Parking: You get a free parking permit with your tuition but its not even worth it, I missed over half of my classes searching for parking for over an hour. The only time you can find parking is during the Summer. The only way to make it to class is to always have 8 ams, take the bus, or pay a bunch of money for an off campus spot.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Guys Too Pushy – Students are typically very fun, it's deffinitely a party school. However, a lot of the guys are kind of pushy, especially when you go out to places near campus such as AJ's and other places. There is a lot of school spirit.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I wanted to go to UF but I did not get in. If I could do it again, I would not even waste my time applying to UF. I love the campus here, the people...the everything. It is a real college experience and I am proud to be a Seminole!

College Freshman

Athletics: I Am Not an Athlete – I am not involved in any athletics, but to be a true Seminole, you have to go to at least ten football games!

4 College Freshman

Computers: I only use my laptop when I want to do stuff I really do not want FSU knowing about! There are a bajillion computers located all around campus and printing is not really that ridiculous. I think its cheaper to pay to print, rather than paying for your own printer. Some residence halls do have Wi-Fi, but it is really not that reliable. If not, there are ethernet ports to get pretty fast web connection.

5 College Freshman

Scholarships: FSU gives us our refund checks right when they say they are going to give them to us. We got ours a week into school, while FAMU still has not given their students theirs. Last year, a friend of mine that goes to FAMU did not get her money until November! How do they expect students to live that way? FSU cares about us and has various additional scholarships for people that need financial help. The FinAid office is wonderful too! Everyone there is so nice!

5 College Freshman

Transportation: I Love the Buses – The buses take you pretty much anywhere, and the city bus stops in numerous places on and around the campus. The bus system is pretty reliable and very convenient. With my FSU card I can ride the city bus for free. I think this is because I paid an arm and a leg for it included in my tuition.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life.
