Off-Campus Housing: Plentiful and Affordable – Finding apartments in Tallahassee is like shooting fish in a barrel. Walking a block in any direction from campus and you're bound to run into at least three or more and each containing signs offering students various bedroom options that are available for leasing. But because there are so much a good renter must be able to spend some time, about a day or two...or three, and sitting down with the leasing managers in each apartment they are interested in because not all apartments are made equal. Prices, room build, roommate compositions, and the general location can all vary. But overall if you take the time renters will find their dream apartment somewhere in Tallahassee for around $340-$600 and for a college student living off part time work and loans how can you beat those prices.

College Freshman

Facilities: FSU students are very active and always participating in social and academic things. The academic programs are ranked high in the nation, for example psychology. The facilities have historical values and are easy to find once you have your bearings. A unique opportunity is the easiness of being able to study abroad.

College Freshman

Diversity: There are people of all different kinds and personalities at FSU. The majority of the students are middle-class white. There are other races present on campus though, and everyone is accepting..not ignorant. There are several churches on/near-by the campus.

College Freshman

Academics: Classes just started, but the curriculum is interesting, and student-friendly. The facilities are beautiful and easily accessible. The workload is not too heavy.

2 College Senior

Transportation: Busses are ok. They're free so that's good, but sometimes they are way too crowded to even be allowed on.

1 College Senior

Parking: It's practically impossible to find a parking spot at FSU. Just absolutely ridiculous.

4 College Senior

Campus Housing: Dorm Life – Some of the greatest days ever were when I lived on campus. Everything is close, you have tons of friends around you 24/7, don't have to travel to school but verryy little privacy. If you live in a suite style you're fine but the others succkkk.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: GO NOLES! School Spirit is huge around the FSU campus. While walking to class you can a huge portion of students supporting the noles! All of the facilities on or around campus are great as well.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: The dining halls at FSU offer little variety and there are only a few places to eat other the halls.

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: The city of Tallahassee is always busy and buzzing with excitment and noise. You don't even have to leave campus to go out and have a fun night or a quite night at the moive theather. FSU offers great FREE activities for students. FREE is the key word to anything in a college students eyes!

4 College Freshman

Academics: The Academics is great. Professors are nice, registration is easy workload is fine and other study stuff is simple

3 College Freshman

Diversity: Majority White – There is a decent amount of black people in tallahassee, but not too many at FSU. There arent too many other minorities either. White is dominant

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Overall i'd say that if you can there's better food off campus that's not too far away, but for what it is, the food on campus is good and usually decently cheap.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: The Leach is our gym and is very awesome, there's always classes and it's open almost all the time. Oglesby Union is the center of campus and people are always coming and going, it's really awesome because it houses lots of food, student organizations, study areas, and pottery as well as having market wednesday every week. There are two libraries, Dirac is quieter and houses mostly science material, and the other is the largest and is always full. There's always and activity somewhere on campus, and usually free food to go with it. Overall the campus is beautiful, parts are old and others new but it's all nice.

5 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: The city is very big and very busy. There are all sorts of things to do at Florida State University. There's the Reservation where you can go camping, tanning, swimming, canoeing, or enjoy the rock wall. On campus there's always events. Movies play every night at the Student Life Cinema, the library's great for studying and when you're bored you can go bowling. There's always a cultural event going on at the Globe. Off campus there's plenty of clubs and lounges for the nightlife, the capital is right here, and the food is phenomenal almost anywhere you go. There's always campus police around, though you should still be wary, that and with Safe Bus, and the emergency poles it's decently safe on campus, off campus it's better safe than sorry. There's shopping everywhere as well. Most students are nice, there's always people promoting a club, association, or activity going on.

4 College Freshman

Academics: So Far So Good – I've met with my advisors and they have been extremely helpful with setting me on the right course to success i have to apply to my specfic major next semester

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Great and fun sports focus with amazing school spirit.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: I'm Still up in the Air – Coming off recently switching from Undeclared to Communications, I don't know exactly how this major will fit me. I enjoy the random general education classes I got to take and made the mistake of not taking many classes to make an educated guess on a specific major. My career goal only extends far enough to make a difference and not have to "work." The concern I have is having to sell my soul in order to make enough money.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: Florida State has the most passionate professors I've ever encountered. As long as you show up and are interested in making good grades and learning, you're provided with an atmosphere to excel. Make yourself known to your professors and everything becomes a lot easier.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Tallahassee may be the state capital but it's also a major party town. If you're looking for a real, in the movies, kind of college experience, you can most definitely find it at FSU. There's always something to do from free concerts on campus to kayaking on the res.

4 College Freshman

Majors: Hopeful for the Future – I've never had an internship but I plan on having one with a company like duPont where I can learn how to do my job as a chemical engineer and hopefully get offered a job when I graduate from college.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Challenging Career Path – Currently I am an Exploratory major but I want to major in Chemical Engineering. Though I still want to explore different subject areas to make sure that's what I really want to do. The workload is difficult my first semester at school, which was the summer, I took college algebra which was challenging and in the fall I will be taking Chemistry and Pre Calculus along with two other classes. The difficulty level of my classes will keep me in the books for most of my time in college and I know I will eventually have to take classes like Calculus 3 so I have to retain the knowledge I'm gaining now to use as a foundation to build on later.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: College Town – Tallahassee may be the state capital but it isn't a very nice city. If it weren't for the Universities in the area the population would be drastically lower. It's just not a beautiful town but there is always something to do because college kids are always up to something.

3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Tallahassee Atmosphere – Tallahassee is a place that fits the lifestyle of many different kinds of people. There are many popular nightclubs and bars for people that like the nightlife, a well-developed local music scene for people who enjoy concerts, and plenty of places to get out in nature like the beaches on the gulf or nearby springs and lakes.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: No Hassels – I didn't have any problems getting into the psychology program or into the university. The most important criteria for admission is to take your required classes and do at least average in them. Tips: always see your adviser on a regular basis.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
