4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: For the most part, there are not many policies I disagree with on campus. The only one that is more annoying than uncalled for is the Gordon Rule. I understand the rule and why it is so important, but I do not feel I should take four classes to learn to become a better writer. Other than that, I have no complaints with Florida State.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: I believe there is an even mixture of races on campus. There does not seem to be any challenges faced by any group. Every club on campus is a combination of different races.

5 College Freshman

Nightlife: Way Too Much to Do! Your options are ENDLESS at almost any day of the week. Just don't get too distracted!

3 College Freshman

Diversity: Small Minority Community – The amount of minority students on campus are small compared to the Caucasian population, but we still show a very strong presence on campus.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I would not trade this school for any other. I love the different activities this school has to offer. The football games are always a lot of fun and every student has great team spirit. Even the libraries aren't half that bad to spend time in sometimes.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Campus Bus – Transportation seems pretty well at FSU. There are a lot of buses that run from decent hours throughout the day and go on and off campus. There are also special buses that run through late hours of the night.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Exercise Science – I am an exercise science major and plan to go to PA school after undergrad. I am satisfied with the curriculum the school has to offer. They try to challenge their students which is best for our future. There are a lot of required writing classes which can be frustrating, yet I know and understand the reasoning behind them.

Health & Safety: There Are Very Safe Measures Taken by the Campus Police Department, but Robberies and Armed Assaults Are Still Common. I do not feel safe walking around anywhere on campus at night, even in lighted areas. The day time is great and I feel fine, but night time is different. Our campus however has great ways to make the student feel safer. There is a free safe bus that you can call and it will drive you anywhere on campus, there are safe lights ALL OVER campus that have an emergency phone attached to them, and the students get emails/ text alerts if they need to be precautions or if a crime occurred. Overall, the campus is relatively safe because of the many efforts of the authorities and it is normal to be nervous or to feel unsafe at night anywhere, especially by yourself.

Athletics: Florida State has the best school spirit in the nation! From football, baseball, and basketball to sand volleyball, softball, and swimming, FSU sports bring a whole new life to being a student. The fans show up regardless of how well the teams are performing, although there are a lot of sports in which we do very well. You can go just about anywhere in the nation and find a Seminole fan!

3 College Senior

Greek Life: A Non-Greek Opinion – As a non-greek student, the presence of fraternities and sororites is nearly suffocating at times. Walk just 5 minutes on campus, you'll see at least 3 different sororities being dispayed on clothing. Posters and other ads are all throughout the campus as well. On a positive note, the Greek students are huge on philanthropy; moreso that I have seen elsewhere.

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: Campus Safety – I have only had one personal encounter on campus when I felt unsafe. There was an older man lurking around the student union and within minutes, FSUPD was on the scene and escorted him away. However, at least once a week, a crime bulletin is sent about attempted robberies and armed robberies. They typically occur in the same general area, but we never hear of the police actually catching the suspects. That being said, I'm afraid of walking around by myself in certain parts of campus.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: I have not started looking for an internship yet, however I know many people who have them. FSU makes it very easy and are extremely helpful with finding students internships. I do not know a single person who looked for an internship who did not get one. The businesses in Tallahassee are always looking for interns.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: My family is not eligible for financial aid, so I knew coming in that I would most likely get nothing. Which is exactly what happened. However, scholarships through academics are not too difficult to come by, and I got one with my admissions just for being an out-of-state student in good academic standing.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Division 1 sports at FSU are a HUGE deal. Most students never miss a football game, they attend most of the Basketball games, and most of the Baseball games. Everyone here loves the Seminoles and will stand by them all the way. The Seminoles love their fans, just as much as the fans love them. Division 1 sports aren't the only athletics FSU has to offer. We have the largest IM sports complex in the nation, as well as many sport club programs. There is a sport for everyone!

Academics: Florida State has excellent Academics. Most departments have decent advisors, but not all are extremely helpful. Depending on the subject most professors are great. Some better than others, of course. For the most part my experience within the institution was above par. I came out with a deep knowledge base and a great all around school experience.

Off-Campus Dining: Food Glorious FOOD – Tallahassee provides a little something for everyone in terms of dining. I would not say that everything is up to par with the availability of variety in big cities. But, for the size and scope of the city a person can find anything, at any price and quality. Fast food, organic food, Italian, Japanese, Pizza, Deli, Ethnic. There is a fair share of restaurants to choose from.

5 Recent Alumnus

Local Atmosphere: At first glance Tallahassee does not seem to offer much in the way of cultural events, attractions, and shopping opportunities. The small town feel is something to get used to if you come from living in a city with all resources and social activities available at all times. However, once one opens up to it, the charm is undeniable. There is something for everyone. Decent cuisine, quiant coffee shops, fun bars, a theatre and art scene, parades, open markets, beautiful parks, and it being the state capitol- a fair share of politics. The city is very welcoming to Florida State, FAMU, and TCC students. Especially on days where FSU football is playing a home game. Everyone comes together for an amazing day of tailgating, grilling, and being unified under school spirit. All in all, a fantastic environment for any incoming student.

Campus Strictness: The school, along with the city, are very strict on parking. It is nice because I always know when there will be a high concentration of student traffic and when I should get parking. I would suggest that the freshman not drive so there is more parking spots for students that live off campus. The school is understanding but expects respect and consequences are enforced when rules are broken.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: The Drug Scene/Alcohol/Peer Pressure/Police – If you are not involved with drug you wont see it. I live off campus in student living and there are parties every weekend and it is expected to hear drunk people late at night. This happens occasionally on weekdays, but the police are always on it and very attentive and able to quit the drunk students down. Police enforcement is AMAZING here. I really do feel safe, and I like that they send texts when things happen around campus and have those emergency poles all around campus.
Peer pressure is something that I do no experience. I have never been to a campus that if I said I ' cant to drink, or go out because I have to study or I'm tired or for whatever reason, my peers are so understanding. I believe that it is because everyone is going though the same general thing during the school years.

5 College Junior

Academics: Being a Social Work Undergrad Student – The Florida State University Social Work major is a great and comfortable community to be involved with. I have never been entangled in such a friendly and helpful atmosphere. Almost every professor has been or is currently a social worker and I'm not sure if that is why they are so understanding and eager to help, but it's incredible. They are all very knowledgeable about all aspect of social work. Everyone in the Social Work department has made me very confident about my major choice and helped me pick out classes perfectly. I was so lost and they really showed me the right path and exposed me to what I needed to do to graduate with my BSW and continue on to FSU Graduate program.

5 College Senior

Overall Experience: Best Years of Your Life – You won't find a better experience than the one you'll get at FSU. You're level of involvement is completely your choice, however I recommend going to/joining in as many activities as you can. The Football games to the freinds you make in organizations are all priceless experiences that are top knotch at FSU!!!

4 College Senior

Nightlife: On & Off Campus – There's great variety of nightlife both on and off campus depending on what you're looking for. On-campus offers a 'club', late-night dinning, bowling, and a movie theatre. Off-campus has a better nightlife though for both of age and underage a like.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: Cost for Comfort – The more amenities you want, and 'nicer' living, the more you're going to pay. But there is a great variety of options. It's just a matter of finding a complex or area that suits you.

3 College Senior

Campus Strictness: Certain Rules Take Priority – Honor Code Policy and rules/regulations regarding attendance are highly enforced. Dorms are pretty strick depending on the RA you end up with.

4 College Senior

Drug Safety: Drinking Over Drugs – For the most part, alcohol is more popular at Florida State especially for sporting events.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
