Weather: It's Florida...The Sunshine State – It's definitely hot in the summer and can be cold in the winter. Always carry an umbrella because it can rain at anytime.

Facilities: State of the Art – The gym is really great, with tons of equipment. The stadium is beautiful as well.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: Never Stayed – I've always had a place off campus but had a few friends who stayed in them. They were decent and livable.

4 College Junior

Academics: Wide Variety – there are plenty of options for classes and majors along with extra curricular activities you may not find at other schools.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: Moderately Safe – the school is older but has been refurnished in some parts and there are small petty theft but nothing major to make it completely unsafe.

2 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: No Attractions. Crowded in Downtown – There is plenty of shopping options, but the traffic is bad and not any theme park attractions

3 College Junior

Transportation: I Drive – I drive or ride my bike so not to sure how the transportation really is but hear other students say its affordable

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Great Teams – The football, basketball, and baseball teams are all top notch!

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I haven't received many scholarship opportunities.

Off-Campus Dining: Vegan Friendly for a Town of This Size! There are plenty of vegan options at restaurants near campus and all over Tallahassee. We even have our very own vegan cafe in town called "Sweet Pea" that has a full menu and daily specials. There is also a pretty decent variety of ethnic restaurants-Asian, Indian, Mexican, Mediterranean, etc., and most of them are very vegan friendly. A few pizza places even have vegan pizza on the menu, and Mellow Mushroom and Decent Pizza offer (Daiya) vegan cheese!

Off-Campus Housing: Plenty of Apartments, but Most Are Older and Have Lots of Undergrads – There are plenty of apartments in Tallahassee, but most of them are older and cater to the undergraduate crowd. As a grad student, you may find a few higher end apartments that are quieter, but your best bet is renting a house or townhouse.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: I don't know anything about the Greek life, but from what I have heard it's very good.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: Bus System – The bus system is very conveniant because it's always going around campus. You have apartments that work with the University, so the busses will go every 15 minutes to pass the apartment and take any students to the university. I noticed while visiting that there are busses that take you just around the university and others that will take you outside of the university to anywhere off campus.

Local Atmosphere: Small but Big – Tallahassee can easily be seen as a very big town, but while at the same time it's small. This is because it is a very chaotic town, with lots of cars, which makes it seem small and crowded. When in reality it's actually a very big town, coming from someone who has gotten lost in it multiple times since I'm not from there. Other then that, the campus of Florida State University is very pretty and big. I was extremely impressed with its scenary.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Most of the majors are very difficult and competitive to be accepted into. You really have to put forth your best effort in your classes and in the application process in order to be considered for the major you are applying for. It is a huge school (40,000 students), so everyone is competing to accomplish their goals.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: All of the classes I have taken so far have been great. Not only are the TA's very attentive and helpful, but the professors are as well. The majority of my classes have been informational while also somewhat fun and entertaining. I also love the variety in class times and scheduling that I am available to choose from.

Academics: Very Interactive, Great Program – At Florida State University, the Early Childhood Education program is very competitive. The professors are great and they work with you to really become a wonderful teacher. The school also gets you involved with a great amount of field experience which is very beneficial.

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: Great for Freshman – The dorms are near the middle of campus which is good for the freshmen who are just trying to find their way around campus, but for upperclassmen, its not the most accommodating.

3 College Senior

Weather: Another Rainy Day! It rains a lot, but nothing that puts a damper on your day. In the summer, it is most appreciated because it gets extremely hot.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: Pretty Great – The computers are excellent, current technology and easy to use, but during busy library or lab times it could be difficult to find an open one.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Pretty Much Awesome – FSU has an amazing campus atmosphere and college life there is awesome, I do think that the experience is a little better if you're in Greek life at all, but that's also based more on opinion and preferences.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Pretty Average I Think – Campus strictness is pretty normal. The only thing I actually found them strict with was in the dorms, any rules broken are taken extremely seriously, but in any other areas they're relatively lenient.

2 College Sophomore

Scholarships: The process is a little annoying because you have to stay on top of the people at the financial aid office in order to make sure your situation is handled in an efficient/ timely manner, and I have received some aid but definitely not enough.

4 College Senior

Facilities: Music Groups Are Incredible – FSU has one of the best music programs in the country, and everyone can benefit from it. There are plenty of groups open to non-majors, and they are a blast! Students can also attend a wide variety of concerts and recitals for free. The vast number of quality musicians at the school also enhances the local music scene, which is great for any time you want to go out with friends.

3 College Senior

Transportation: You Should Try to Live on-Campus or as Close as Possible. Parking on campus is a nightmare, but driving is necessary to get anywhere that is not within 2 square miles of campus. I recommend living close enough to campus to either catch the campus bus, ride a bike, or walk.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
