Off-Campus Housing: Tallahassee is the capital city, but it's still not a city. The off-campus housing is pretty lengthy of a walk and you better know your self defense because most of it is in the sketchy part of town. Overall, they're a little pricey, though nothing compared to dorms, small, and not in a good location. But if you have a car, then they're fine, just remember to lock up at night.

Overall Experience: FSU has provided me with a well rounded college experience. Even as a busy nursing student, I am relieved to still have time to experience the town with my friends. There are plenty of places within walking distance of campus to eat and drink, and tons of things to do within budget. The traditions are superb, the environment is beautiful. I love Florida State.

Local Atmosphere: Tallahassee is a beautiful city that gives visitors a taste of the real Florida. Tallahassee offers residents old southern flare and lots of local cuisine.

Health & Safety: Had a chance to use the clinic and it was great, friendly staff and great service. I feel safe at this school

Scholarships: For athletes there are so many opportunities. But if you aren't an athlete there still are some scholarship opportunities but they are just harder to earn and harder to keep. My scholarship is for $9600 over 4 years which is an amazing help especially on top of Florida Bright Futures

Computers: There will always be available computers in Strozier unless it is crunch time and it is kind of expensive to print on campus. It is necessary to have your own printer and most convenient to have your own laptop with you .
The WiFi here is awful. It is hit or miss if it works and always seems to fail when you need it the most, like when you need to turn in an assignment online. Even when you can get a connection it is terribly slow. Not all buildings have WiFi. Your safest bet is to bring an Ethernet cable but even then, good luck.

Off-Campus Housing: You really have to start looking early for a good place to live. It mostly depends on what your looking for and what your standards are. Some of the nicest are cheaper places to live are further from campus which is fine if you have a car or dont mind taking the bus daily.

Off-Campus Dining: There is such an awesome variety of off campus dining. Personally Kool beans alone gives FSU an A+. They use organic Tallahassee grown food and prepare it in such a creative way. I am head over heels for this place that I find it hard to go anywhere else.

Campus Dining: The school has so much to offer students. With the wide variety of majors and other activities to be involved opportunities are everywhere. Personally, some of the dorms are not suitable and the dining hall becomes overrated quickly. But as a school I absolutely love it and would never change my decision to come here. There are a lot of teachers that are really passionate about what they do and doing DIS with them is another great opportunity to be involved and help you further your interest in your major.

Greek Life: Greek life is great for students who want to develop friendships and build their resume. They offer many volunteer opportunities and give back to the community. Greek life is also a great way to network. It is definitely something that is expensive and it is not necessary at all.

Campus Dining: Florida State University offers a wide variety of dinning opportunities on campus. Students have the choice between eating at two conveniently located dining halls named: Suwannee and Fresh Food. Suwannee is located on the East side of the campus and has a plethora of options to choose from. From pizza to sandwiches to Italian pasta and even desserts, you can never go hungry when you decide to eat here. The same goes for Fresh Food, except this dinning hall is located on the west side of campus. For both of these dining halls you can either pay a one time fee and get a meal plan based on how many meals you would like per week, or you can pay with credit card, cash or flex/garnet bucks if you rather not commit to a meal plan for the year. Flex and Garnet bucks can all be purchased through Seminole dinning at campusdish.com. I would recommend the garnet bucks because they roll over year to year if you don't use them all in one year. These bucks can also be used at most other fast food/ restaurants on campus. Starbucks, Freshens, Papa Johns, and Chili's to name a few. Once again though garnet bucks will never let you down because they roll over year to year, while flexbucks only last one semester and if you don't use them up then they go to waste.
I would also like to mention that certain resident halls do require students to purchase a meal plan, so be careful when applying for housing if you do not want a meal plan. Overall I have never been disappointed with fsu's dining hall and definitely believe that if this is your first time going away to college you should look into getting a meal plan because many first year students do this as a way to meet new people and socialize and develop friendships.

Drug Safety: We are a pretty average school when it comes to drugs but FSU has a reputation of being a party school and alcohol is a big influence on students and their well being in the community.

5 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: there are so many different options and are all really responsive to the college crowd and the large amounts of people.

4 College Junior

Nightlife: If you are wanting to party, FSU is the school for you. Whether you want to go out clubbing or just go to an overtime house party, it's always fun. Almost every night there's a party. I believe that Potbelly's has $2 Tuesdays. For 21+, Bullwinkle's is the place to be. You have a TON of options in Tallahassee.

3 College Junior

Diversity: We're a relatively diverse university, but we definitely have a bunch of cookie-cutter sorority girls and frat dudes. There are quite a handful of international students here too. We have a PRIDE union and there's a huge drag show that happens every fall, I believe. Overall, we're a pretty diverse/open campus but have a Greek problem. Haha.

3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: It's Alright – I have heard about clubs and parties everywhere on and off campus. However, I don't personally partake in this type of behavior.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: It Is Safe – There is always a fear of being alone during the night. However, at FSU there are always people walking around and it never seems to be lonely. There are parts of the campus where it seems a little iffy; just be smart and don't go at it alone.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: First Year Abroad – Florida State offers a program called FYA and you spend a whole calender year abroad, and get that amazing experience, while still staying on track, and for out of state students become an in state resident.

4 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Always a Party to Go to – a lot of my friends tell me and i have experienced that if you want to go out and party you can, whether it is a house party or going out to a club or bar, there is always something good, depending on what day it is.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Fairly cheap apartment outside FSU. As low as $350/mo.

Drug Safety: Unaware of Drug Usage – I sort of try to avoid this. FSU seems relatively safe, but Tallahassee could get sort of dangerous. Tallahassee can get pretty ugly if you venture to far from FSU.

Parking: I recommend to anyone to just get a bike, because otherwise parking could easily steal 2 hours of every day.

Off-Campus Dining: Great Selection. Florida State Univsity is located near the center of town, with several busses going out into the city which are free for college students, so dining off campus is a breeze even without a car. There are numerous locations, like Tiajuana Flats, a wonderful little Mexican restaurant just off campus with large portions and low prices. Numerous options for asian cuisine, sandwiches, you name it, even within walking distance of campus. You won't find many high class or good sit down restaurants near the campus though, for the most part you have to go down town for those.

Drug Safety: Drug Is Limited but Alcohol Is Not – So far, I've never seen or heard about anyone who do drugs, but I've heard and seen a buch of people going to drinking parties.

Facilities: Facilities are good, there are some old buildings that have been around since the school opened. FSU is also continuing to build new and modern facilities.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
