3 College Sophomore

Athletics: I do not participate in athletics on campus. I am an online student.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: I have only visited Melbourne one time, and that was a long time ago.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: As an online student, we interact with other students from all over the country, and from all sorts of different backgrounds.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I really do not know how health and safety is on campus as I have never been there. I am an online student.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: I honestly do not know how the computers are at my school. I am an online student.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: The school is very safe. I wouldn't say that it's perfect since a lot of the buildings are old and have mold issues. They also leak. So on rainy days, the older buildings smell disgusting.

College Freshman

Campus Housing: I don't live on campus, so I don't know how housing is. I do know that it is insanely expensive considering the area. If you live on campus at FIT for four years, you would rack up the same amount as if you bought a house in the neighborhood.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Pretty good mix of people. Some people are very outgoing while others only care about video games.

1 College Freshman

Transportation: It's almost impossible to get around Melbourne unless you have your own car.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: We just got a football team this year. I think that says everything you need to know about athletics

2 College Freshman

Nightlife: It's a science school in a sleepy beachside town. Unless you're partying with homeless people in Downtown Melbourne, you're attending Charity Benefits on the beach with people more than twice your age. Parties are weird in Melbourne and the nightlife is practically non-existent.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: FIT is strict about some things, like parking, while being completely lenient about other things, like attendance. Attendance is only required if the teacher requires it. Administration doesn't really care.

4 College Freshman

Weather: Florida is beautiful for about 3 seasons. Summer can be atrociously hot and humid. But, you can always go to the beach on New Year's to make up for it.

5 College Freshman

Majors: Really, each department is very helpful and they are very involved with the students and their success. You don't just get to meet with your academic adviser here, you get to meet with the department head.

5 College Freshman

Majors: The school is really science based and the department is always working with the students.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing is way better at FIT because it actually is less expensive than living on-campus. But, the university makes it required to live on campus for 2 years.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: It's just about equal to any private university's drug safety.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: About 35% of the school is international students.

3 College Junior

Nightlife: There isn't much to do and the few places that most people attend can be experienced in the first month and then it gets old.

3 College Junior

Athletics: The basketball, soccer, and baseball teams do well and have support. The football team is new but seems to have support.

4 College Junior

Majors: I am in Computer Science and I love it. The curriculum is stimulating and engaging. I was able to study major courses immediately. I have gained enough knowledge to participate in work related projects while continuing to build on the foundation

4 College Junior

Majors: Internships typically occur as research on campus, contractors in the city, or big corporations that recruit on campus. You are typically paid and treated as if you were a full time employee. You also gain experience that helps when you return to school.

2 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are fast food restaurants but not exactly close and not open late. Restaurants are scattered around the city but difficult to get to without personal transportation.

3 College Junior

Diversity: There is diversity in terms of where students are from locally and internationally but most people still tend to gravitate towards their own culture more than being immersed in a diverse group.

2 College Junior

Scholarships: It is very difficult to get enough financial aid to cover tuition, room and board. It takes multiple attempts at getting aid that you are eligible for and deserve. There are even instances where renewable rewards are not added each year and you have to argue with financial aid to add it back. Their first suggestion is always to search for private loans.
