Florida College offers a small variety of varsity sports—men's basketball, women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's cross country. However, there is a greater variety in the intramural sports, including kickball, softball, and flag football in the fall semester and basketball, volleyball, and ultimate Frisbee in the spring.
The number of varsity sports is limited by the amount of funds available to the school, but the teams themselves do well and have won a number of national competitions. Attendance at varsity basketball and volleyball games is free to FC students, and many enjoy cheering on the Falcons and the "Amazons of Conn" at the home games held in the gym. The soccer and cross country competitions are more overlooked by the student body, as many of the events are held off campus, but students enjoy hearing of their fellow students' successes during the announcements in chapel. Intramural sports offer opportunities for the six societies to compete for school points. Anyone on a society can play, regardless of ability or experience. Participating in intramural sports is a great way to work off the stress of homework and studies, as well as an opportunity to get to know fellow students on a different level. The intramural games tend to be competitive yet friendly, with the emphasis placed more on good sportsmanship and having a good time rather than on winning every game.
