Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Florida A&M University will prepare you to excel in your future career. The professors push and encourage their students to go beyond their limits. There are no handouts at the University—you have to work hard and earn your grades. FAMU also offers lots of student organizations, and it’s recommended that you get involved with at least one. Many students met some of their best friends through campus organizations.

The University is also unique because it is rich in tradition and culture. Students here bleed orange and green, and their love for the University stays with them after graduation. In fact, FAMU has a huge alumni following, and alumni are constantly coming back to campus for events. Another unique thing about FAMU is the University’s award-winning marching band, Marching 100. The band has performed in Super Bowls, appeared on national TV, including CBS News and ESPN College Day, performed with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx at the 2006 Grammys, and was even asked by President Obama to play at one of his events. Many FAMU students say there is no doubt in their minds that they would choose the University again if they had the choice. This University is truly a home away from home and continues to produce educated and successful future leaders.

Scholarships: If there is one tip I can give, is to do it early, because it takes the longest time for my school to process financial aid. Some students do not get their money till way later in the semester.

Health & Safety: When things such as a robbery or an armored man/woman is near campus, the police sends out a mass text to all the student on campus and also to students who attend near by colleges/universities.

Greek Life: I am not a Greek student so I am not sure ow Greek life is or how it is running. But the way I see the Greek life, it is a big organization in Florida A&M University.

Off-Campus Housing: I live off campus, but I live with a family-friend so it is different from renting a room and finding a roommate. But I pay $400 a month for rent. My mom friend cooks lunch and dinner for me. She even goes above and beyond and cleans my dirty clothes so all in all it is a perfect place for me to stay. The only problem I have is the distance from the place I love and school. It takes 30 minutes for me to get to school, and gas is not cheap!

Campus Strictness: I have not seen that many strictness on campus, it is probably because I do not stay on campus that long. But if I can say one thing they are strict about is where you park. I have seen a lot of students get tickets or one time a boot on their car.
