Off-Campus Dining: I've lived here two years before attending school here. Unless you live off campus, or on campus and have a car, restaurants are a substantial distance from housing. If you live on campus, eating healthy/vegan/vegetarian is almost impossible without access to a vehicle. The organic and natural food stores are located on the northeast side of town and require transportation. Walmart is at least five miles on either side of town, but there is a Winn Dixie. Almost everywhere gives a student discount, if not, they have an overabundance of deals and discounts that would defeat the purpose.

At first glance, students might get the wrong impression that all Tallahassee has to offer is repetitive fast food places. But, if they look past all the McDonald’s, Burger Kings, and chicken spots, there are some hidden gems. There is a lot of variety in the restaurants here, so no matter what kind of food you are craving, you should be able to find an affordable option. Tallahassee dining includes European, Italian, Asian, Mexican, American, seafood, vegetarian, soul food, and delis, among others. Plus, there are all the fast food chains, which are close to the school.

On the other hand, kosher and vegetarian options are not that common. Tallahassee has about three restaurants that cater to non-meat eaters, but the city does have many alternative markets where students can purchase food to create their own meals. The prices are reasonable for many of the restaurants and are not too far-fetched for an average student’s budget. Overall, the restaurants are convenient, which comes in handy when students are tired of eating the same on-campus menu items.
