College Sophomore

Computers: Have not moved to the campus

College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Most of my answers are NA due to the fact that I haven't lived on campus yet

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: College students do drink, but the group that I surround myself with doesn't part take in that as much as others.

College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: I haven't experienced off campus dining since I am not living there yet.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Ferris State offers on campus as well as an opportunity for external scholarships. This is great for me since my education is going to be dependent on that for funding.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Winters in Michigan are horrible in general. The campus is accommodating to its students and faculty because of it.

College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I have not lived on campus at Ferris

College Sophomore

Athletics: I have not lived in the area to know.

College Sophomore

Transportation: I will be new to the area

4 College Sophomore

Academics: So far from my communication with the faculty, academics at Ferris are wonderful!

4 College Sophomore

Academics: I am registered for the MLS programs. So far from my experience as a transfer student it has been a smooth process.

College Sophomore

Greek Life: I have not experienced Greek life at Ferris

College Sophomore

Nightlife: I have not lived in the Big Rapids area

Campus Housing: The dorms here are really outdated, but there are other modern options. The east campus suites are fairly new, and allow students to live on campus with an apartment feel.

3 College Student

Campus Strictness: The only major concern the officers here have is giving out parking tickets. On my way to class, at least three cars have tickets on them every day.

2 College Student

Weather: A good 70-80% of the year is bitterly cold and snowy. It is really windy here also, which makes it even worse.

2 College Student

Nightlife: There really is not a whole lot to do around here. There have been weekends where there is absolutely nothing going on anywhere. Also, a lot of places do not stay open late enough to do anything.

3 College Student

Athletics: The facilities we have for sports aren't as nice as some other schools around us. A lot of the facilities need major updating.

3 College Student

Greek Life: It is really strange to me that in Big Rapids, there cannot be sorority houses. Compared to other schools in Michigan, our Greek life is not as developed.

2 College Student

Off-Campus Dining: There are not a lot of places to eat up here. It is a really small town, so we have your basic fast food places and larger chain restaurants, like Applebee's and Buffalo Wild Wings.

3 College Student

Off-Campus Housing: The only downfall to moving off campus is the lack of parking on campus. I read on our website that there are two people on campus for every one parking spot. That seems a little ridiculous to me.

4 College Student

Scholarships: The only thing that bothers me is how quickly funds from Ferris run out. We couldn't file our taxes early this year because money was tight, and now I am highly unlikely to receive money Ferris has set aside for first come first serve because I had to wait.

2 College Student

Transportation: We only have one bus for our campus. It makes three stops in total, and they are at places that are not convenient for everyone.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: people talk and car pool when going home all the time.

College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I have no idea of the drugs at school. I stay away from that crowd

According to students, if they were given the option to go to this school again, 69% of students would choose Ferris! The same amount of students surveyed said that they like most everything about the school and would only change a few things. Overall, students find that there are many great people to meet, and it's a good academic college. Though some stress the lack of entertainment and “city” things to do, if a person is content with small-town life, then this would be the best place.

The people and the faculty make Ferris a great experience. The faculty and staff are pretty helpful and understanding if a student needs extra help or is having problems with something. The school and faculty seem to care about the students and take an interest in students getting the help and the experiences they should. As long as the student puts in a decent amount of effort in their classes, faculty will be more apt to help.

Another great factor about the school is that class sizes are small, and there is more individualized attention for each student. Since the community is small, there are not too many things to do, but there are enough! There are several bars, a bowling alley, a movie theater, and tons of parties and get-togethers throughout the week. Since people seem to be so friendly on and around campus, it is easy to make friends and have something to do and someone to do it with! While in school, though education is the main focus, it is important to have some balance in life and join other groups and activities (which there are many to pick from).
