FIT's campus is located on one city block, leaving little room for space. There are no grassy areas to lounge around or things of that nature; the streets are lined with trees, and there are benches for students to sit on and enjoy the New York scenery. In terms of the school's actual buildings and amenities, the Museum at FIT houses one of the world’s top collections of costumes and textiles, and it's also free and open to the public.
FIT has a variety of other special facilities that are exclusively unique to campus, such as a knitting and weaving lab, toy design workshop, several photography studios and black rooms, and cosmetic and fragrance labs. These are just a few of the special campus facilities. Many students agree that the campus needs improvement in areas such as the elevators, the escalators, and the bathrooms. Some students also feel that there are classrooms that are a bit outdated.
