Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Apply early.
  • Attend Summer Live, FIT's summer program for high school students.
  • Be creative.
  • Be relevant to FIT and well rounded.
  • Have extracurricular activities throughout high school; it's not just about the grades.
  • Show passion through your work.
  • Speak with an admissions representative.
  • Talk to a current FIT student.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • A lot of students dress to impress (FIT is very image conscious).
  • Campus life is lacking compared to other colleges.
  • FIT is more of a commuter school.
  • FIT is somewhat of a community college.
  • More information about academic majors. Some students discover they were meant for another major after starting the school year studying something else.
  • SUNY schools have general education requirements, so students at FIT have to complete all 10 general education courses-including basic communication, arts, math, humanities, science, foreign language, social science, other world civilizations, western civilization, and American history-before you can graduate with a degree from FIT.
Interviews & Information Sessions
Admissions holds information sessions several times a week. The purpose of these sessions is for prospective students to learn about the majors offered, the SUNY application process, and to have any questions answered. These sessions are designed for prospective students and their families.
Campus Tours
Upon completion of the information session, FIT recommends prospective students take a self-guided tour of the school. Tours can also be set up by calling admissions at (212) 217-3760.
Overnight Visits
Unfortunately, FIT does not offer any overnight visits for prospective students.

Did You Know?
It is best to arrive 15 to 20 minutes prior to an information session, as these sessions are often well-attended.
