Guys & Girls: I don't believe that a rating for the students at Eckerd would be applicable simply because every guy and girl is so unique and I have no place to judge their appearances or interests with words such as "the worst," or "the best." Eckerd has a reputation for being a "hippy" school, so you will find your fair amount of tie-dye-wearing, pot-smoking, earth-loving, protesting college students, but that is not all there is at Eckerd. Eckerd has a variety of students; athletes, nerds, foreign students, rich kids, comedians, singers, dancers, hula hoopers, fire dancers, gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders, punk rockers, video gamers, explorers, etc. No matter what or who you are at Eckerd though, a label is only a label, it does not define us. Every student makes Eckerd what it is, Eckerd would not be so unique and welcoming without this variety of students. Social life at Eckerd is what you make it. I have made a lot of friends very easily, but it all depends on how open you allow yourself to be. Everyone is so welcoming and genuinely interested in other people. There is always something to do on the weekends, whether it be kayaking at the waterfront or partying at Kappa, no one should ever feel like all they have to do is sit in their room. Relationships can be sensitive, considering how small of a school Eckerd is, but nevertheless, it is easy to create unforgettable relationships with people there. Eckerd is a place where you will meet life long friends, without even realizing you're doing it.

Guys & Girls: Most students here are incredibly attractive and physically fit. People at Eckerd are really big into water sports and parties generally. That does not mean that you won't fit in if you aren't into either of these things. Most Eckerd students are very accepting of others and just nice people overall. You will be able to find people with diverse sets of interests, and you will likely pick up a hobby or two from the friends you will make here. Weekends at Eckerd are dominated by the party scene. If that is not for you there are other alternatives. The International Cinema Series shows movies every friday night, and there are usually buses into St. Pete, where there are lots of things to do and see. There are also great concerts in Tampa all the time, and it is very easy and fun to go to sporting events in St. Pete and Tampa. Relationships are somewhat rare at Eckerd. Most people prefer to be single, or just have casual flings, but there are a number of people who find happy and successful serious relationships.

There is a ton of natural beauty around campus, and not just in the landscaping. Let’s face it, if you choose to go to a school on the beach, walking to class will often look like a Clearasil ad. Eckerd students are attractive, often come from money or exotic backgrounds, and most just want to have fun, enjoy the sun, and soak up the tropical atmosphere. What’s nice is that the Eckerd student body is made up of many different crowds, from the so-called “hippies” to athletes, biology buffs to the international crowd. And, at a school this small, everybody somehow gets along strangely well. In such an accepting place, many people experiment with their image and crowd and find new things they are really into, while others just seem to follow the fad. But, there’s a little something for everyone. Freshman year is fun, and if you stick around, you can connect with some awesome individuals and very unique people.

On the other side of things, even though everyone is incredibly accepting, such a small campus can start to fill a bit claustrophobic by late sophomore or junior year. The small size doesn’t bode well for a great dating scene, and competition can be pretty stiff with a high girl-to-guy ratio. However, some students find love and others lust; and, if you want to broaden your horizons, pretty much everyone chooses to go abroad at some point.

Social Scene
Students are definitely friendly and outgoing, and you will probably meet a good percentage, if not most, of the freshman class during Autumn Term (Eckerd's three-week-long orientation for freshmen). You can interact with other students through classes or just by being on campus, since most students live on campus and generally dine/hang out on campus. Great places to meet people are the library, dorms, hammocks, Eckerd and St. Pete beaches, the waterfront, intramural sports, Kappa Courtyard, Palmetto events, and, of course, the ever so popular college night at the Sloppy Pelican.
Hookups or Relationships?
The small student body size and high girl-to-guy ratio can make dating a little hard, but you'll find both here.
Dress Code
In terms of clothes, pretty much anything goes, as long as it's laid back. Girls do get dressed up at night to go out, but it really depends on the crowd. You'll see everything from highly maintained to downright doesn't care, but remember, this is the beach, so think summertime style and save the big city clothes for going out or going home. Even professors occasionally go sans shoes, and flip-flops are the most consistent accessory in anyone's closet.
