Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Apply early. Most students procrastinate, so take advantage of the waived admission fee and make your decision earlier about where you actually will go.
  • The interview is a great time to connect with the Eckerd community, as well as ask questions and show interest in the school or a future major.
  • Participate in volunteer or extracurricular activities that interest you and help lend perspective to your application.
  • Playing a sport can really help ease the burden of financial aid and open up additional doors and opportunities.
  • Put time and thought into your essay. Remember, it's not just to demonstrate you can write well-an interesting essay can help you stand out from a stack of identical essays and applicants.
  • Show interest in Eckerd: attend prospective student day, take a tour, or attend a class. These are all great ways to network and gauge your potential fit at the school.
  • Take the AP or IB tests if possible. They boost your GPA, show potential aptitude in higher education, and can help you earn credit hours or lessen the Western Heritage in a Global Context requirement to one semester instead of two.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Not to pack so much stuff
  • Science majors have the worst schedules(early-morning classes, long labs).
  • The books for each semester can cost more than what your left arm is worth.
  • Thursday is a weekend night, almost more important than Friday.
  • What to major in
  • Which dorm to live in
Interviews & Information Sessions
Eckerd offers group tours of campus and will include an information session at the end of the tour. Information sessions are also available to high school sophomores. Make an appointment online at www.eckerd.edu/admissions/visit/group.php. Interviews not required for admission but are encouraged for high school seniors. Phone and off-campus interviews are also available.
Campus Tours
Like test driving a car before forking over your down payment, visiting campus is a crucial part of gauging whether or not you'll be happy here for the next four years. While you won't discover all of Eckerd's charms and character in one day or even one weekend, the tour will help you get a good feel for the place and people and will give you the chance to ask as many questions as possible to as many people as possible. The Eckerd tour is given by current students and is a great way to see the layout of campus and learn a few unexpected facts. Tours are given weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays during the school year from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Schedule a visit at www.eckerd.edu/admissions/visit/individual.php.
Overnight Visits
Eckerd no longer does overnight visits. However, prospective students can sit in on a class or meet with a faculty member, on a limited basis. Call (800) 456-909 ext. 8331 for more information.
