Off-Campus Housing: Most of Eckerd students live on campus. We are a community and it is easier to get involved when you live on campus.

Health & Safety: Unbelievably Safe – Eckerd is surrounded by water on 3 sides and a guarded gate. I have no problem walking around campus at any point during the day or night.

Academics: Interactive Staff, Challenging Curriculum – I think the academics at this school are challenging but present the student with the opportunity to do well. Professors are so approachable it is ridiculous. All my professors know me by name and I am confident that I could as almost all of them for recommendations and advice.

Scholarships: As you know Eckerd College's annual cost is a steep $42,000. The school offers a sweet scholarship of academic excellence that ranges from $8,000-$10,000. If your a resident of Florida you can also apply for various grants to help you out. Another way to earn some money through financial aide is if you qualify for federal aide work study based on "need," you can make up to $3,000 a year back. In all Eckerd College is a small private expensive school but don't let that discourage you. There are loads of scholarships out there that could help you in small or large ways to pay for school

Facilities: At Eckerd college we have the splendor of waterfront property all around campus. ON the East side on the creek we have a waterfront marina. It houses all of the sailboats, power boats, kayaks, paddle boards, fishing equipment, camping equipment, wake-boarding boats and the list goes on. It is one of the best places to relax while getting some diverse exercise out on Boca Ciega bay.

Academics: My education thus far in the marine science realm is a challenge to say the least. After fullfilling the pre-requisites, all of the upper class classes apply to the real world. The school does a great job integrating the real world into the school atmosphere by brining in guest speakers for students all the time, doing field work and one on one interaction with your professor. If your not afraid ot get your feet wet and ask around, opportunities will come your way.

Overall Experience: Perfect School – Eckerd College is the best school I could have attended. The class sizes are small, and the professors know who you are, but more importantly, they care about you too. Each student is assigned a mentor that will guide him or her throughout the 4 years at Eckerd. The student body is so incredibly diverse and there is such amazing opportunity to study abroad.

Weather: Eckerd College is located on the water and has it's own personal, private beach. The weather is absolutely beautiful 85% of the time. The coldest it gets is around 40 degrees at night in the winter (which is only about a month long) , and the hottest it gets is in the mid 90s come May, June, and July.

Guys & Girls: Laid Back – Everyone at Eckerd College is pretty laid back and casual. The majority of people get along with one another. There are lots of students that could be identified as "hippies"--often times you'll see them walking around barefoot.

Parking: Terrible Freshman Experience – Although you could bring your car on campus as a freshman, As a freshman you had to park in the freshman lot that was located far from my dorm. As a student playing a sport, it was very difficult to run in and change from class to go to the field. I did get a lot of parking tickets over the year.

Academics: I came to Eckerd College so I could be close to home and live by the beach. The classes are smaller in size and the instructors care that you are in class and are willing to help you.

Diversity: Diversity is one description that fits Eckerd very well. You won't believe how different everyone is until you're on campus and you start getting to know your classmates and even your roommate.

Facilities: Facilities on campus are not the best. My dorm went almost a week without toilet paper.
Athletic centers and everything else available to students are great, though.
Campus does not have an awesome aesthetic power.

Health & Safety: Not a Scary Place, but.. Walking around at night on Eckerd's campus is not a problem because it's highly unlikely that you will be attacked, because the campus is generally safe; however, the security is sometimes lacking. They do not always check vehicles entering the campus at night and they don't do much about crime and emergency situations. They're more like hired mall cops.. As far as health services go, I don't think they offer enough services, such as on-campus dental services; I have had problems with this at Eckerd.

Nightlife: Night Life – There are usually a lot of parties at Eckerd on the weekend, but Eckerd is a VERY small school, so the parties are nothing like at State schools and huge universities.

1 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Living on Campus – If you don't have a car then it is pretty boring on campus if you are the type that don't like doing the same thing every weekend. St. Petersburg isn't very exciting. You have to drive to Tampa to usually find something to do.

Computers: Computer Access – The computer access at Eckerd is great! There is a printer here that kids can use for free, and personal wireless access for laptops is great!

Athletics: Fan Support – The students all go to the games and are very supportive of our teams, Lots of fan support by students & faculty

Local Atmosphere: Local Attitude Toward Students – The locals love Eckerd College students because we are involved in the community and we give back to the community.

Drug Safety: The Drug Policy – Eckerd College has a no drug tolerance policy. I am full-time working adult and student who doesn't get a chance to witness what type of enforcement is actually done.

Health & Safety: Thoughts on Campus Safety – Safety on Tampa West Campus is not an issue. There is security on guard at all times. The guards will walk the ladies to their cars after night classes' end between 8:30pm to 10:30pm, which makes me feel extremely safe. Security codes are turned on after 6:00pm to ensure that unauthorized people don't come into the building.

Academics: What I like most about the Humanities program at Eckerd College is that you can specifically design a program that fits your career goals. My concentration is American Literature and creative writing. This will allow me to use my degree to work in a number of fields that are not limited to teaching.
The curriculum is very detailed oriented and fast paced because it is an adult program. The faculty is very helpful with its assistance to adults returning to school after a number of years. The job opportunities are endless with the help of job placement programs at Eckerd College. I would recommend this school to any adult returning to school.

You WANT to Study Here
You WANT to Study Here
You WANT to Study Here You WANT to Study Here The Eckerd College library is a small two-story library with a very modern and efficient draw. This is a spot where you'll often run into 60 percent of the people you know on campus. It's a popular place to study, chat, meet with groups, and relax (some even nap here.) There's plenty of places to study, including a screened-in patio, comfy armchairs, and various study rooms to vie for.

Eckerd is a really unique school with hundreds of quirky and charming dimensions, but it’s not for everyone. For some, the school is too small, offers limited major options, and has a somewhat repetitive social scene that can make Eckerd fell less like paradise and more like a very, very small tide pool. But for those who continue on at the College for all four years, there are some great memories to be had and life-long connections with both peers and professors to be made. Profiled in the book “Colleges That Change Lives,” Eckerd is a school with a lot of potential, opportunities, and amazing experiences, but it is up to you to get involved and craft your own experience for the next four years of your lives.

However, there’s no arguing that the faculty is amazing, the level of interaction is great, and the location is paradise. Eckerd is one of those schools where the world is at your fingertips—students can do everything from participate in a spring break service project overseas to work at the waterfront. There are countless varied activities to help students get involved in all aspects of campus life from academics to international aid or club sports, and there is a slew of support from peers, professors, and alumni to help make your dreams into a reality. Plus, all of this in a setting where the sun sets over your backyard and a walk along the water brings just one more dolphin sighting! For most, it’s hard to believe Eckerd is a college and not just perpetual summer.
