Campus Strictness: Gated and Secure, but Crazy on the Inside – RA's ask you to please "crack open a window" if you are smoking pot, everyone drinks and brings bottles/cups anywhere they please. Occasionally, overly drunk underagers and campus bike vandalizers get written up, but I never was.

Athletics: Awesome to Be One, but Little Support – The athletes are great and have a lot of fun together. Most the teams are of average talent/success, a few are really good, and a few are really bad.

Diversity: Tons of international students and almost all 50 states represented by students.

Academics: Fantastic Education – Eckerd College helped me to achieve my dreams of completing college through its commitment to its students success. The professors are wonderful and helpful. I believe the education I received from Eckerd is second to none. I was not only given the opportunity to learn and reach my educational goals but also a love of learning. It is the learning that is important.

Facilities: All of our facilities are clean and have the appropriate atmosphere. I am comfortable in every place.

Health & Safety: There has been a recent event where a person had a gun near campus. The security contained the situation very fast. This event makes me feel safe on campus even if some situation happens.

Local Atmosphere: There is always something to do on campus. Mainly because of the water bordering the campus. There is also a lot of things to do off campus, but you must own a car to get there. If you need to take a break there are places where the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful.

Facilities: Amount of Study Abroad and Service Learning – Being an extremely eco-friendly school, Eckerd attempts to do its best with the Service Learning office to show those who want to help an amazing and informative time. There are often Saturday service trips, to any organization that you choose.
In addition, Eckerd has some of the best study abroad offerings out there. With Winter Term trips being one of the best resources freshman can find for broadening their horizons, they are often 3-4 week trips that change peoples' outlooks on life.

Drug Safety: Alright, but Need the Right Safety Zone – Drugs and alcohol are pretty popular on campus, but not in a way that is offensive. I was a little shocked when I learned Eckerd was apparently on the Reefer Schools List, because it doesn't appear that way at all. Granted there are often loud and crazy weekends, but nothing too bad. The amount of damage that occurs in these party dorms though, is nuts.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Profs Really Help With Work – I love my professors office hours and how available they are to me when I need them. Granted I don't use them as often as I should, but various tutoring sessions and review sessions for all areas are often available when needed and are effective.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: It is a safe environment with strict rules but has a reputation of drug

Parking: To go to Eckerd you need a car, or a least a bike. Getting off campus with out a car or bike can be very difficult since we are located on a large 6 lane road, which can be terrifying to cross. If you do have a car though, parking isn't so bad. There is always an available parking spot somewhere. However, if you are a freshman you MUST park in the freshman parking lot, unless you want a ticket of about $100.

Facilities: Eckerd offers so many study abroad trips for a semester and for winter terms. Eckerd is also one of the only schools i know of that allows pets to live on campus. There are always tons of events like Kappa carnival, The Go Party and many others!

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Sunny Is Sweet Rainy Is Swamp – When the sun is shining, the campus is beautiful! when it is raining, the ground becomes very muddy and is very inconvenient when walking on grass. There are a lot of sidewalks though so it isn't too bad

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: Learning Cultures – There are many student at Eckerd that are from all around the world. From the UK to Saudi Arabia, you can meet and socialize with students and learn about their culture!

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Its Easy to Find Housing – Its pretty easy for students to find off campus housing, but most people don't need it. If you're going off campus, go to Maximo.

College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I Hear It's Cheaper to Live Off Campus – I personally don't recommend it though. Off campus housing isn't very close to the school and I think living on campus is big part of the Eckerd Experience.

Campus Housing: Traditional Dorms Are Pretty Good! If you're coming in as a freshman, consider applying to live in a health & wellness dorm. They're usually quiet at night, even on the weekends, and they can often be a more family-like environment. I lived in a health and wellness dorm my freshman year and I was friends with almost all of my dormmates.
The rooms are a decent size and they have great big windows, which was really nice. The walls are pretty solid too, so unless you're in a corner room or a single, you don't hear anything through the walls.
They're safe and small.
Most of the student population lives on campus.

Academics: Great Professors – Many of the professors at Eckerd hold the highest possible degree in their field. They're very friendly and eager to do what they can to help you succeed. The curriculum is highly commendable in almost any field you decide to study there! Registration isn't terrible. They have GREAT science programs and their Fine Arts department has a great environment.

Majors: Finding Myself Staring at the Other Side. I love what my intended major is (pre-med ) yet i feel uncertain when I see the marine- bio student taking a boat ride to the bay. Since, I just started the program I few information of my later three years. I know we have to get a dean's grade to attend a full- semester abroad to study. The internship do not begin until the second semester and I must work up to reach the requirements for my intended internship goal.

Academics: Talk About Getting the Job! As a health care / pre-med student, my mentor has aided me find the right classes that lead up to my intended major. My professor gave me advice to choose a general chemistry class along with a lab and a zoology class, plus a calculus class. Convincing many students to take double majors to know more about the world. The internship programs are lead by a specific administrator who takes me step by step to finding the safest and challenging area to work efficiently.

Local Atmosphere: Now, my college's local atmosphere carries a sea-side breeze and bronze tanning Sunshine.
All the classmate make merry trip from dorm to classroom and cafe to waterfront, where the water sports take place. We wind-surf, sail, go wake-boarding, or just take a salty swim in the harbor.
Our school is a friendly environmental preserver. For the safety and health of environment and students, we have a transportation program that I find most fitting. That is the "yellow bike" program, where our school provides 200 bikes on campus for any student and every student to escape the humidity and lapse of time from dorms to classrooms.
It is just magnificently refreshing after a warm swim with the dolphins and speedy racing bike ride back to our dorms.
The fitness gym is also free use to all students after a day of mental work-out it is time for the physical work-out.
Our campus library provides knowledge- hungry student the enrichment of books and internet.
Plus, the relaxing study chairs that melts you into a sweet slumber after a read of a National Geographic Magazines' article with the beautiful Floridian fresh water pond and snowy heron watches you snooze behind the crystal glass casements.
This is the first impression of my first week at Eckerd College and Cannot wait we spend the rest of my four years in paradise.

Off-Campus Housing: Most of Eckerd students live on campus. We are a community and it is easier to get involved when you live on campus.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Unbelievably Safe – Eckerd is surrounded by water on 3 sides and a guarded gate. I have no problem walking around campus at any point during the day or night.

4 College Junior

Academics: Interactive Staff, Challenging Curriculum – I think the academics at this school are challenging but present the student with the opportunity to do well. Professors are so approachable it is ridiculous. All my professors know me by name and I am confident that I could as almost all of them for recommendations and advice.

You WANT to Study Here
You WANT to Study Here
You WANT to Study Here You WANT to Study Here The Eckerd College library is a small two-story library with a very modern and efficient draw. This is a spot where you'll often run into 60 percent of the people you know on campus. It's a popular place to study, chat, meet with groups, and relax (some even nap here.) There's plenty of places to study, including a screened-in patio, comfy armchairs, and various study rooms to vie for.

Eckerd is a really unique school with hundreds of quirky and charming dimensions, but it’s not for everyone. For some, the school is too small, offers limited major options, and has a somewhat repetitive social scene that can make Eckerd fell less like paradise and more like a very, very small tide pool. But for those who continue on at the College for all four years, there are some great memories to be had and life-long connections with both peers and professors to be made. Profiled in the book “Colleges That Change Lives,” Eckerd is a school with a lot of potential, opportunities, and amazing experiences, but it is up to you to get involved and craft your own experience for the next four years of your lives.

However, there’s no arguing that the faculty is amazing, the level of interaction is great, and the location is paradise. Eckerd is one of those schools where the world is at your fingertips—students can do everything from participate in a spring break service project overseas to work at the waterfront. There are countless varied activities to help students get involved in all aspects of campus life from academics to international aid or club sports, and there is a slew of support from peers, professors, and alumni to help make your dreams into a reality. Plus, all of this in a setting where the sun sets over your backyard and a walk along the water brings just one more dolphin sighting! For most, it’s hard to believe Eckerd is a college and not just perpetual summer.
