Scholarships: Not Too Painful – They are very lenient are working out payment plans. However, make sure you get all of your paper work in on time.

Off-Campus Housing: The houses off campus are nice but can be a little expensive.

4 College Senior

Guys & Girls: Open Minded – Eckerd college is a place where you can be whatever you want. People are not going to judge you. There are many different styles.

Campus Housing: Not the Best – The on campus housing, other than Omega, NU and sigma, are not the best around. The building are old and the AC is not always the best. Rooms and pretty small and do not provide many options for a comfortable stay.

Academics: Excellent Education – My experience as a student has been awesome thanks to the professor's dedication to their students. The facilities at Eckerd have been continuously renovated and are becoming very nice. The workload for an International Business major is not too bad. It can be bad at times, but it is something that anyone can handle.

Academics: Very Attentive – Professors at Eckerd College are very attentive with their students. They care about the well being of each student and the facilities. If you need help, they are always available as soon as possible to provide the best help they can give. Classes are easy to register to, but I do not give it an A+ because sometimes classes can get full very quickly.

Transportation: How Many Schools Drive You All the Way up the East Coast for a Rally? Well, the number one way to get around is by your car or your friends (which never becomes an issue because most people have cars). But, if that isn't an option than there are buses that go all over St. Petersburg, Shuttles that go to Wal-Mart and the mall, and taxis for every where else. Not only that but, EC will provide buses to big events off campus such as Spring Ball, Gasparilla in Tampa, every First Friday in downtown St. Pete, and pretty much anything EC students want to go to. But, possibly the coolest thing was when EC provided buses to take EC students to a Rally in Washington D.C. to protest the Keystone Pipeline. If enough students want to go somewhere, EC will try and make it happen.

Campus Housing: Communities Not, Dorms. Each dorm at Eckerd is its own community, its more than just a place to sleep. You will quickly pick up on the different vibes throughout each dorm. The college really does a lot to foster these communities, and are even going further to include these already established community atmospheres as the basis for future renovations of the dorms. Plus, most dorms have a million dollar view, you can't find that for under $10,000 a year anywhere.

Academics: Your Major = Level of Difficulty – Science majors at Eckerd have the most rigorous class schedules. Some majors are not as easy as they sound such as Psychology. However the class sizes are small the teachers (for the most part) are willing to help the students succeed and are very knowledgeable in their fields.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Very Pleasant – I have never felt threatened on campus. Our campus security patrols the campus routinely and are themselves very friendly and let you know they care about your safety.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Even I Can Eat! I have a plethora of food allergies so my diet is rather limited but in the immediate vicinity of the campus there are the standard fast food options and down by St.Pete beach there are a lot of seafood restaurants. However the real variety comes when you go to downtown St.Pete where there are options for pretty much anyone.

3 College Junior

Parking: Most students live on Campus and can park around the dorms. Classes are usually about a 5 maybe 10 minute walk from the dorms. However If you are a visitor then finding a parking space maybe rather difficult

Weather: Its Florida – Its on the water and its florida!
75-85 and sunny 90% of the time

3 College Senior

Diversity: the campus ethnicity joke is that the only black people on campus is the basketball team-it's true too.
But, we do have a lot of international kids-even have a whole program and dorms for them, but most of the regular campus is afraid of them

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: Decent Housing – The housing is okay-the common areas are kept clean except for the students ruining them at night until the staff comes in the morning.
The AC is constantly on the fritz-the dorms echo like crazy, especially the ones with tile floors.
The given beds and furniture is absolute crap, and the bathrooms aren't too great in the traditional dorms.
The windows are great, but since if one person opens a window, the AC shuts off, it kind of ruins it.
The kitchens in the common areas need to be updated, and added to the non-traditional dorms, like sigma and iota-what are we supposed to do if we live there and aren't on mean plan
Oh, and the food IS AWFUL-DONT GO ON MEAL PLAN!!!!

Scholarships: Very Unhelpful – The financial aide office is very unhelpful. You ask them how to get ahead they tell you that you're already ahead. Then you go back and they tell you a million things you should have done. Apparently the Dean of Students is great though!

Computers: Our library isn't amazing but it's pretty nice and there are lots of pretty views and quiet study rooms.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Better Than Most Schools but They Seem to Be Toughening up – Smoking weed in your dorm room or drinking gets you a large fine but you won't get kicked out. The officer at the front gate is power hungry and likes to scare young girls and send undeserving kids to jail. Most of campus safety are relatively nice guys. Don't smoke in the dorms or anywhere too public, don't have drinking games openly and you will be fine.

5 College Junior

Drug Safety: Harmless Drug Scene – Drinking and smoking weed are very popular, and to a lesser extent hippie drugs likes shrooms, acid, and molly are pretty common. There aren't hard drugs like you see in city schools though. People are extremely friendly and accepting of each other regardless if you do drugs or not, there is very little peer pressure.

5 College Junior

Weather: Sunshine almost everyday keeps the students very happy. In winter term it can still get chilly for a couple of weeks though.

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: Never Felt Unsafe – Eckerd is surrounded by water on three sides and campus safety is really good about who they in. There is sometimes a small amount of theft from the dorms which is easily avoided if you lock your door.

4 College Junior

Diversity: More Diverse Than It Seems – There might not be a lot of racial diversity at first glance, but when it comes to economic background, personality, political beliefs, religion, and sexuality everyone is really unique. People come from all over the country and there's a strong international presence as well.

4 College Senior

Weather: Wonderful Year Round – The St. Petersburg weather is one of the major attractions of this school. I look forward to the sporadic and brief storms but enjoy the sunny weather that pervades most seasons. It is not intolerably hot the majority of the time either.

2 College Senior

Campus Strictness: They Want Your Money – Devastating fines are given as punishment in student court for minor offenses real or unproven. Unreasonably huge sums charged to student accounts for any policy violation and a silent witness program that can result in an innocent student having his or her entire room searched on hearsay evidence. Mostly tolerant community and campus safety force make up for this somewhat.

5 College Sophomore

Computers: There are computers every where on campus. The computer lab is open 24/7. There are also computers in the library upstairs and downstairs and there are computers in the writing center to use.

You WANT to Study Here
You WANT to Study Here
You WANT to Study Here You WANT to Study Here The Eckerd College library is a small two-story library with a very modern and efficient draw. This is a spot where you'll often run into 60 percent of the people you know on campus. It's a popular place to study, chat, meet with groups, and relax (some even nap here.) There's plenty of places to study, including a screened-in patio, comfy armchairs, and various study rooms to vie for.

Eckerd is a really unique school with hundreds of quirky and charming dimensions, but it’s not for everyone. For some, the school is too small, offers limited major options, and has a somewhat repetitive social scene that can make Eckerd fell less like paradise and more like a very, very small tide pool. But for those who continue on at the College for all four years, there are some great memories to be had and life-long connections with both peers and professors to be made. Profiled in the book “Colleges That Change Lives,” Eckerd is a school with a lot of potential, opportunities, and amazing experiences, but it is up to you to get involved and craft your own experience for the next four years of your lives.

However, there’s no arguing that the faculty is amazing, the level of interaction is great, and the location is paradise. Eckerd is one of those schools where the world is at your fingertips—students can do everything from participate in a spring break service project overseas to work at the waterfront. There are countless varied activities to help students get involved in all aspects of campus life from academics to international aid or club sports, and there is a slew of support from peers, professors, and alumni to help make your dreams into a reality. Plus, all of this in a setting where the sun sets over your backyard and a walk along the water brings just one more dolphin sighting! For most, it’s hard to believe Eckerd is a college and not just perpetual summer.
